I am thinking about my son being fitted with contact lenses, he is 7, does anyone have any experience with a young child and contact lenses?

would they allow contacts for such a young child?? your eyes change so much between childhood and puberty it may be best to wait a while.

my mum told me I couldn't get any till I was 16 cos of eye changing shape with growth. DUnno how true this was or if total bullshit cos she ddn't want to get them for me.

Why on earth would you want to get a 7 year old lenses? My ds has worn glasses since he was a baby and I really wouldn't dream of inflicting them on him. Hope it's not a vanity thing/ giving him a complex about them? I assume not?

My 12 year old has just started wearing them on a Saturday for rugby. 12 was the youngest the optician was willing to fit lenses for. And even then, he's only allowed to wear them for 2 days a week max.

I had them at 13, but I'm wondering how a 7yr old would cope if the lens moves into the wrong place or gets something in his eye.

Specsavers have an age limited of 12 too.

SuzieSweep · 12/11/2007 16:05

7 is a bit young don't you think??

MrsBadger · 12/11/2007 16:18

way too young

is he unhappy with his specs?

possibly more to the point, are you unhappy with his specs?
