Swollen eyelid now can feel a bump

I had a weird eye swelling a month or so ago. Used drops as advised by phone call to ANPat out doctors but now when putting eyeshadow on that eye can feel a lump. Going to see optician Monday but has anyone had similar. Didn't have a head like a stye, got crusty but not like conjunctivitis. Pic for interest below

Ouch, OP, sympathies. I had something like this and it was a chalazion, sometimes also called a meibomian cyst. It started as an itchy eyelid and then swelled up like yours. It would discharge a bit (sorry) and would be gummy in the mornings.

I had drops but it did take quite a long time to go away and my eyelid still has a slight tendency to swell sometimes.

It might be something similar, perhaps?

Is there a hard lump? I had one and had to go to they eye hospital and have it removed (just a walk in appointment, not too terrible).

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/04/2021 13:58

I’d it’s sore is there an eye hospital with awalk-in clinic near you?

Thanks all. It's not like this now. Looks normal again but I can feel a lump. Sounds like the cyst you mention tbh but reassuring as I'm a worrier and Google isn't always helpful to me as I read worst case scenarios!

Sounds just like a chalazion as pp mentioned. I got one after an infection much like yours. Mine took up about a third of my eyelid, I was quite aware of it. In the end I had it removed, 10 min outpatient procedure at the eye hospital, all sorted.

You can use a very warm (not hot) damp flannel to massage it or you can buy heated eye masks which can help reduce it too. After you massage you can use wipes for blepharitis which you use to clean along the lash line and help keep the ducts clear.

I agree it looks like the meibomian cysts I used to get.

I too had to have one removed, after it got too hard for drops or creams to touch.

By chance mentioned the issue to a nurse, after GP had prescribed all sorts, and she suggested steaming the eyelid when one appeared - just filled a flask with hot water and held under my closed eye for a few seconds at a time.

Chalazion vote from me too OP! I had it 10 years ago. Looked exactly like that. Doctor suggested warm compresses until it came to a head and opened up. I had an antibiotic cream for it as eye doctor suspected it may have got infected early on by my contact lenses. I still have a teeny tiny scar but it cleared up within a couple of weeks. My God, it was sooo painful and I actually ended up in eye casualty twice with it. Wishing you well Thanks

KitBiscuit · 09/04/2021 17:30

Sorry I meant to say it only came to a head and opened up as it got infected. They don't necessarily do that but hot compresses a few times a day should definitely help.

I'll try the hot flannel then..it was so sore when it was swollen but not sore at all now
