Finger tendons - A&E or paracetamol and rest

I was closing my bag earlier today and heard and felt a pop at the base if my middle finger. The bruising came up quite quickly but wasn't overly painful. When I bend my finger too far it is but generally not too bad. Hand now feels cold and have tingling in my thumb and index finger in that hand and what looks like a split in my knuckle when I bend my middle finger too far (all the jokes have been made regarding which finger is injured feel free to join in).

We don't have a minor injuries centre here or I would have gone there. Unsure wether this requires A&E as I've no idea what I've done to the tendons, I'm guessing it's the tendons due to numbness or wether to just continue to pop paracetamol and use it as a good excuse to delegate the changing of the babies nappies for a week or so.

Has anyone done anything that sounds similar? Sorry for the length of this post

A&E, don't mess with your hands, get it checked

If you've snapped a tendon, you need to get it sorted ASAP.
Get yourself to A&E.

Yep A&E, I fell and kind of punched the floor, ended up with a broken hand that needed a screw put in which was a reasonably quick and easy fix. The thing that did the most damage was the avulsion fracture of my ring finger which is where the tendon pulls away from the bone. That took months of physio and a night splint to get to the point where I have 90% functionality in that finger and it's forever a bit wonky.

Definitely get it checked especially if your hand is cold it could have affected the circulation.

NotMeNoNo · 05/04/2021 20:44

I had a broken tendon, not obvious at first but then had to have a minor operation to restore it. Please get it checked out at A&E.

A+E. Even it's nothing they won't mind - it's your hand FFS

Well this is slightly concerning honestly expected to be told just to rest it and it's probably nothing lol. Just waiting on my mum coming round to sit with the babies and I'll go to the local A&E department. Thank you everyone for the kick up the backside I needed

So glad you are going, better to get it checked and be told its OK rather than wait and be told you should have gone sooner.

Let us know how you get on.

Newnamefor2021 · 05/04/2021 21:32

Glad you're going. Good luck OP.

After a 4 hour wait, I seen the doctor for all of 30 seconds who said as I can make a fist I'll be fine in a few weeks Blush . I called before I went up as is protocol and I did say I could make a fist so I don't know why I was told to go up. Hopefully my hand warms up and the numbness goes before then. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me last night
