Shoulder pain - no injury, redness or swelling

I've had a painful shoulder for about a month now. I've not injured it, it's not red or swollen. It's not painful all the time, just if I reach behind me when doing up my bra or trying to scratch an itch. It is very painful though when doing those things (just almost passed out with the pain of trying to get out of the bath) but as soon as I return my arm to a more forward position the pain goes.

I'm going to call the GP tomorrow but I anticipate that they'll tell me to take some ibuprofen and go away. Has anyone had anything similar/know what might be causing it?

Hi op I'm afraid it sounds like start of a frozen shoulder to me, especially the pain on doing up your bra. It's a self limiting condition, but can take quite a long time to get better. I hope the GP is able to help.

I think you can self refer to the physio these days.

My physio sorted my excruciating shoulder in one session. The best £85 I've spent in a long time.

Thanks all. I'd forgotten that you can self refer to physio so that gives me an option if the GP isn't very helpful.
