Want to know if my dd is an average weight as dp seems to think she may be over weight, i know dd is tall but i would not say over weight, i think he is wrong.

Do you have your dd red book Scooby? That has a chart at the back for height and weight etc. My dd is 19m (next week) and she is over 17kg I know that it is way over ave weight as she is off the scale entirely for her age group (think it falls into 90th ctile for a 3yo!)

She is also at the top of the scale for height, and has a big build and my family is tall so I am not overly concerned as she is active and healthy.

You need to look at what is av for your family rather than the pop as a whole iyswim?

hth.

Well i am tall at 5"8 & dp is 6"1 so we knew she could be tall, i am probably 2 stone over weight but still not huge, size 14 in clothes, dp is normal weight for his height.

I think dd is fine, just tall with a little pop belly.

There you go scooby your dd is tall and a healthy weight - I would not concern yourself - the pot belly will probably dissapear by the time she reaches school age - I will miss the baby chubbiness as my dd gets all angular and awkward like her cousins

Wouldn't worry at all, my ds is almost 2 stone and he is 15months! Although as bigmouth said it depends on height, family etc.

ScoobyDooooo · 08/11/2007 15:52

Thanks for the help & the idea of the red book did not think of that, i think dd is fine she looks in proportion., i think dp likes to make me worry

I was told that they need to double their weight by six months and triple it by one year. It tails off after this.

They all have different frame sizes and need some level of fat covering it. IMO if there are rolls of fat where they shouldn't be, then they are overweight.

DD2, 2yrs, is almost the same weight as DD1, 5yrs. She is definitely not fat but is the same size/height as DD1 when she was 3. DD1 is on the 90th centile and head circumference when last checked was off the page!!! DS was 2 stone on his first birthday, but weighed 10lb when born. Didn't look out of proportion at all.

They are all different. Trust your own instinct.

My 1 & 2 year old weigh the same....

SpacePuppy · 08/11/2007 19:46

ds is 23 months and 14kg

EachPeachPearMum · 09/11/2007 09:06

dunno what dd weighs she is 22mo but her chubbiness varies according to whether she's been having a grow!

The pot belly thing- just watch her after meals, I bet its huge?
My db was a really tiny child, very very thin, but with a huge pot belly- it was his organs- their organs are often arger than their bodies, especially after food when the stomach is full.

As long as she is healthy, eats well, plays well, don't worry!

tortoiseSHELL · 09/11/2007 09:09

Thay vary so much - ds2 is 22lb at 18months. My ds1 (6) and dd(4) weigh the same. They're all healthy, although ds1 is stick thin.

I think you have to look at the child and see if you think they 'look' right, and little ones do slim off as they grow.

My 3 all go out-upandin-out-upandin etc iyswim!
