Breast Lump Biopsy - Waiting for results

Hello
3 weeks ago I found a lump in my breast. I only noticed it as there was some redness, and when I felt it there was a lump.
I saw my GP who said she was a bit worried about it and referred me to the breast clinic. I went a few days ago. The initial consultant felt it and said he was very sure it was a cyst & to have an ultrasound and have it asperated.
When I had the ultrasound, the lady said it's not a cyst, and took a biopsy and then I had a mammogram. I then had to see the consultant again straight after. He hold me they're not sure what it is. He explained they grade mammogram results from 1-5. (5 being cancer, 1 being nothing), and they were grading it at 3 because they're not sure. I get the results next week.

I've read a few articles saying people have developed 'harmless lumps' in their breasts and armpits after their vaccine (due to lymph node drainage), and I noticed the lump 2 days after my vaccine, so I'm aware it could be that.
I know that no one can really offer advice as such as it's a 'wait and see' situation. But I was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and what was the outcome?

I had a lump biopsied and I was very scared because I have a tumour inducing genetic syndrome.
I turned out to be a fibroadenoma. I left it untouched for 2 years but had it removed recently as it had started growing and there was increased blood flow to the area.
The radiographer who took the biopsy did say that the way the needle was going in didn't feel like cancer.

The lump was seen on a breast MRI and before they pointed out to me, I had never felt it.

Good luck with your results and well done for picking it up! I've had one similar that was nothing and another one that was some form of skin issue (I forget its name as I was young - they said it had the potential to be cancerous but wasn't yet but had some type of pre cancerous cells).

The waiting is just dreadful so much sympathy.

Thanks @Cormoran I've read a little about fibroadenoma as I'm trying to look at all possibilities. I'm glad you had a good outcome. They said they had no idea what it could be, which I found was a bit odd as I thought surely they must have some idea. But they didn't so I'm just waiting now.

@RedNovember Thank you. Yes, I panicked when I first felt it as I've never had a breast lump before. The wait is a little stressful. I'm due to start IVF in a few weeks, and I'm sure if the news is bad, that the IVF might not happen. x

@LetMeIn321 have you had your results back? Thinking about you x

I had a big lump in my breast, dr sent for mammogram. I'm 34.
I wasn't really scared, I'm not sure why I just didn't see the point panicking - how will that change anything? And also was I to panic about dying? But then shouldn't I panic when I cross the road in case I get run over? I don't know why but it didn't make sense to me being scared or maybe it's because I'm so used to health scares I was just thinking: meh, another one. 🤣

Turned out I had an infection and swelling with puss there (sorry tmi), so you can imagine how bad the lump was. Dr kept asking how did I manage to do it? But I've no idea!

Anyway course of antibiotics and I'm as good as new 😁

I've had a lump before as well (routinely found by a GP), did mammogram ultrasound- it's just a complex cyst that needs monitoring.

Good luck . Don't stress. It'll all be ok eventually! X

@Cormoran @Veronika13
Hi, thanks for your messages.

The hospital called and said it’s benign. They don’t really know what it is (potential inflammation) but said it’s nothing cancerous and to see if it goes down over the next few weeks. I’m so glad about that! It is a little smaller now than it was but still there. I'm relieved it's nothing serious.
Thank you so much for your messages xx

Very happy for you xx

Veronika13 · 06/04/2021 09:37

Great news! 😀 I don't think I've ever had a Pap smear without abnormal cells, so I'm used to it. The way I see it is our bodies are alive, they go through changes, so sometimes some abnormalities pop up
