and getting a nasty red, scaly patch after scratching it??

I have 2 such bites and my son has one on his face.

Is there a new kind of mosquito about this autumn?

We are in the South of England.

We were until this week and yes we had big bloody welts all over. They are dying though, it's all the rain we had in June, they had a mad mating frenzy and didn't get killed off by frost. We're hoping they do this week though - together with the dozy wasps which keep divebombing us.

BTW topical application of alcohol stops the swelling. Calamine stops the itching and if its really bad, an antihistamine such as periton can really do the trick

Not sure but I live in Dublin and was bitten twice last week and had a huge ring around bite. I assume it was a mosquito.

We are have unseasonably warm weather (around 15). Even our tomato plants, which we haven't bothered to clear out, are starting to grow new flowers. I took ten full ripe tomatoes off today!

Maybe the unseasonal weather has something to do with it.

Thanks for the quick replies and tips. I'll get out the brandy and other medicines!

I'm sorry you have had so many bites, eek.

To be honest I had a lurking fear we might have bedbugs, and wondered whether other people could tell by the bite on my son's chin.
