Help kidney infection day 3 macrobid making me feel worse

Hey

I have a suspected kidney infection. Doctors put me on macrobid to clear it up. I am on day 3 and am extremely weak and light headed feeling flu like. No temperature. Is this normal? .

I questioned my doctor because I read online macrobid is only for UTIs and she re assured me it is used for kidney infections too and not to worry.

Has anyone else experienced the same? How long does it take to get better? I feel so weak. Waiting for cultures to come back from the hospital in the mean time ... I have a 4 month old and am so exhausted have had to come and stay with family so I can stay in bed and rest.

Just called 111 and they dont seem concerned said speak to a doctor within 3 days. I feel terrible

Nitrofurantoin is not for use in kidney infections, its only for UTIs. Ive had a couple of kidney infections and it was treated with amoxiclav (i think) on an IV. If you get a high fever & low blood pressure you need to go to A&E as you are becoming septic.

Hopefully your sample comes back sounds like you need a change of antibiotics phone your gp again tomorrow.

@Mrsjayy @WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo I was worried about this too. I spoke to 2 different gps and said I have seen online it doesnt treat kidneys and they both were quite stern in telling me they do and they wont change antibiotics. I'm going to have to take a trip to a&e if I get worse. I'm so up and down one minute have energy then 3 hours will feel horrid then ok again just unsure what's going on.

Nitrofurantoin itself made me feel worse. Horrible stuff. Although it does definitely treat your kidneys.
If you aren't feeling great today I'd speak to them again and request co-amoxiclav (providing you aren't allergic to penicillin), I found they were more effective faster than others I've taken for UTI and kidneys, with less side effects.

I usually get Trimethoprim but I need a 7 day course it makes me feel worse before I'm better.

@Mrsjayy better weirdly! spoke with a different doctor who has now prescribed me ciprofloxacin. Hopefully these work !

@eandz13 yes I am allergic to Penecillin so she told me there were a few off the table before giving me this one! Praying they have an affect I felt absolutely horrid yesterday

Hopefully it clears up soon I've kidney problems and regular infections,they really knock you for 6.

@Mrsjayy thanks! I never realised how bad they are! Bless you that you get them regularly! How long does it usually take to feel normal again? Half the day I feel improvement half the day terrible. Back is still in lots of pain especially when I first wake in the morning too. Is this normal?

Usually by day 5 I feel perkier.
