Threadworms - pripsen for under 2s?

Ok - found wriggly worm on dd2's 16 month old bottom yesterday -eek! Had some tablets in cupboard for over 2s. Treated everyone else apart from dh - ran out (why does a "family" pack only cover 4 people).

Anyway sent dh to chemist to get another pack of tablets(so he can have one) and to get something for under 2s. He rang to say the pharmacist said to go to the doctors. I sent him back in to get Pripsen powder - that's suitable for under 2s isn't it? I'm sure when ds1 had worms years ago - I was bf dd1 and only one I could have was pripsen. Right hassle if I have to go to docs - also have to wait another day before I can treat her.

Done & dusted. Hope it works ok as I had to mix it with ice cream?! No way I could get it down her mixed in milk.

Pripsen comes in two forms, mebendazole (same as Ovex) and piperazine - piperazine is the one thats ok for under 2s, BFing and pg women.

But 'over 2' is a precaution, because mebendazole is hardly absorbed by the body anyway - passes through the gut - and has been used in under 2s, pg women etc in other countries with no apparent ill effects: in other words, don't panic if the Pripsen you bought and deliciously presented was the wrong one!

The one dh got was for under 2s. Now gave it to her on Monday. Yesterday there was a dead wriggly in her dirty nappy. Just now there was a still wriggling wriggler in her dirty nappy - has something gone wrong. I assumed they'd all be dead from now. I am doing well in keeping her hands away from nappy area and have washing her hands as well as mine after a nappy change. YUK - i really hate this. The older boys seem fine. Found dead wriggler after dd1 had been to the loo - I thought she might have been the start of this outbreak!

Is Pripsen not that effective? Is it beacuse I mixed with ice cream instead of a liquid? I'm going to develop ocd with this!

Pripsen paralyzes rather than kills them. I suppose one might have got unparalyzed again - but agree its worrying, sometimes the laxative included isne't effective enough I suppose?!

I think I'd be tempted to ask GP about alternatives, myself. Otherwise, you can re-dose with Pripsen in, I think, four weeks? Or is that juts teeny babies, in which case 2 weeks?
