burst eardrum - any experience?

My ear drum burst on Wed night after having blocked sinuses for a few days. It discharged fluid for a couple of days, but that has now stopped. My ear still aches and feels blocked and I am feeling very deaf.

Does anyone have experience of this and how long I can expect my ear to still hurt / when my hearing will come back. Help!!

apparently they normally heal by themselves but mine didn't and I ended up with an operation to repair it.

Have you seen a G.P. ?

this happened to ds when he was 18 months old due to an infection not being treated correctly - from what i can remember we were given antibiotics and told it would sort itself out

unfortuntely becuase of his age it's effected his speech and nw at 5 he's still seeing a speech therapist - but i think you should be ok on that point

oh no! how long was it before they decided that?
saw GP day after it happened and am on antibiotics

Mine didn't stop weeping and I was in sooo much pain but when I went back to A & E they had lost my notes and didn't know anything about my first visit and what anti biotics I was on etc. General NHS crapness really, I think I waited about 3 years for the operation but this was many many years ago.

If yours has been treated with AB's and stopped weeping then hopefully it will be healing soon.

let's hope mine will be ok - just impatient to feel myself again!

Hi, I had this a couple of months ago and you have my sympathy it is awful.Mine cleared up in about a month with 2 courses of ab, they did say if if hadn't healed in 4 weeks they would have to operate.Hope you are feeling better soon.

I really sympathise. i had a horrible ear infection earlier this year. I was deaf for weeks, sorry that's not more encouraging - but it did take weeks to clear up. The dr couldn't see my ear drum cos of all the gunk (TMI!) but it seems certain it perforated as the level of pain I had with it was extreme....

I'd say you should feel muych more normal within four weeks. If you don't feel the anti-biotics have completely sorted you, DO go back for more; good luck!

thanks for the info! will definitely go back to GP if it doesn't sort itself out
