Mucous in stool after upset stomach a few days ago...

I've NC'd as this is a bit gross.

So, I had an upset stomach at the end of last week with cramping, noisy gurgling in lower abdomen and diarrhoea as the symptoms. I think it was a side effect of the COVID vaccine which I had at the beginning of last week.

The diarrhoea/pain/noise cleared up after a couple of days and then I had a day where I didn't go to the loo at all, before my bowels returned to their normal routine which is that I usually go when I wake up.

The thing that's concerning me is that I noticed that I'm slightly constipated at first and there has been quite a lot of white, stringy and jelly like mucous in the first stool of the day. When I go subsequently, the stool is softer and no obvious mucous then.

I'm assuming that the mucous is related to the irritation in my bowel when it was cramping and gurgling and I had quite bad diarrhoea?

I took one dose of Immodium on Saturday afternoon in an attempt to calm things down which worked, but I'm wondering if this may also be linked to the subsequent mucous?

TIA

Hmm once I had an upset stomach abroad and did have one instance with loads of stringy mucus it was disgusting! I asked a nurse at an out of hours place when back in the Uk and she said it was totally normal the intestines produce more mucus to protect it or something after an upset stomach. However it only happened once so not sure if it’s the same as yours (but my upset stomach is was also mild whereas yours sounds worse).

Hi OP,

Don't be offended, but this made me think of my little dog. She used to get exactly what you're describing i.e. sore tummy and then diarrhoea with mucus, and sometimes some blood.

It was colitis. We can get it too.

Might be worth checking with your GP Thanks
