My DD has woken up with a right eye full of gunk this morning . She is fine in herself but it's filling up regularly.

I've used cotton wool and warm water, one wipe per cotton wall ball etc to clean her eye and being careful that I don't infect her other eye (or mine)

Can I use salt in the water to clean her eye? (that's what I would do for myself)

Does she need to see GP?

Can I carry on as I am today and see GP tomorrow?

Should I put mitts on her?

TIA

Are you breastfeeding? If so, put some breast milk on some cotton wool and clean her eye.

if you are breastfeeding her - give it a squirt with breast milk - will clear it up in no time. Or if you think you might miss - express a little and use it to wipe the eyes.

Even did this for dd1 when dd2 was born as she had a very gunky eye... gone in no time.

I would be wary about using the salt.

I would carry on as you are today - trying the breast milk even and then see how it is tomorrow.

dd2 is 8 1/2 months now and has had this a few times. Def breastmilk works also cooled boiled water with s dash of salt works a treat - just clean them with salted water everytime they fill up again.
