Well i bit into something this morning and obviuosly dislodged a huge molar filling ive had for years. The pain is bearable at the moment but i cant really eat or speak without feeling like someone is holding a live wire in my socket and giving me an elecrric shock !!!!!!! Trouble is i am really really terrified of dentists and now go to a lovely man who i totally trust. If i tiun up at our local (45mins away) drop in emergency dental hosp would they give me some local before looking ? I think id prob be better waiting to see my own dentist on Mon if i can.
I cant take pain killers as i have an ulcer although should be ok with paracetamol.
Is there anything i can do for myself to keep the filling from moving about /
Cheers x

If you can bear it, wait till Monday, at least the dentist will have old X-rays, know your history etc. But are you sure he will have time to see you on Monday?

Yes he and his wife run a small rural practice on their own and as long as its not abused they will always fit you in the same day if your in pain.
I will take some panadol and wait i think as i know i had a wisdom tooth growing sideways and causing some pressure.Am on antibiotics anyway for chest infection earache and sinisitus so it could actually all be linked and my detist has the whole picture ect.
What a horrid week !
Thanks

why dont you ring the emergency dentist and ask whether they are equipped to deal with nervous patients?

littleboo · 03/11/2007 16:43

Pain is probably from an exposed nerve. there is an emergency denatl repair kit you can buy from Boots/ sainsburys _ called Dentanurse repair kit - contains paste which you mix up and can use to replace a filling on a temp basis. Another VERY temp measure is some very soft chewing gum to fill the hole during the day. At least then the nerve isn't exposed to hot or cold.

Thanks littleboo.
The filling hasnt come out its just very mobile so ive sort of managed to push in well in with my tongue and if i do this it is much more bearable.
I`ll keep some chewing gum incase though-thanks x
