Menstrual cup issues. Does this sound like some sort of prolapse?

I tried to use a menstrual cup today. I've tried a couple before and they didn't feel right to me but my period is so heavy this month I thought I'd attempt the one I had in my cupboard again. When I put it in I felt this unusual suction type feeling like it was pulling my cervix/uterus downwards. It even made me feel slightly dizzy. It freaked me out so I took it out and the whole experience was largely unpleasant. I'm left feeling anxious and I'm sure it feels a bit strange down there now or could just be sore as the one I tried is clearly not suitable for my anatomy. Anyone else experienced this?

Sometimes if I haven't broken the suction properly when removing it I have got this sensation which is very unpleasant, you have you squeeze the base and then you should hear it's not suctioned anymore then very gently pull it down side to side. I doubt you've caused any damage if it's just the once and you might be just hyper aware of it at the moment. Also my cervix changes position quite drastically throughout my period, so I actually use two different cup types!

Thanks Orzo, yes I think I was hyper aware. It feels a bit better now but I think I'll be laying off cups for a while. I've already wasted nearly 50 quid buying two that I can't use, which is frustrating. I'm so sick of messy pads and tampons just irritate the hell out of me.
What brand/cup types do you use, just out of interest?

I wouldn't worry about it :) I used mooncup for a couple of years, but since coming off the pill I found it didn't seem to fit as well throughout my period I think because my cervix changes so much, so I now use the Saalt cup and you can get a package with two sizes in. Tried another cup I think maybe called Luna and it wasn't right at all. I have also wasted money trying to find the right one which is frustrating!

I don't have periods any more but I used to use my diaphragm. Is that really minging? At least it fitted me properly.

You can use them, you need to break the suction before you remove it.

The weird pulling sensation was when I put it in and it continued until I took it out. It was the lunette cup. Maybe it's just too big?! I tried the saalt soft small, which was much comfier but it almost got lost up there!! Maybe I need to try the bigger size in the saalt soft 🤔

@Shineonyoucrazy they make cap type things for periods now as well so definitely not minging Grin

Oh Lunette was what I used! And it was far too big. Have you done the quiz? I got the saalt in the bigger size and it's much more comfortable and doesn't leak because the small one whilst comfy also felt lost! My cervix is too high for that mid period and for the moon cup

MoonshineWashingLine · 10/02/2021 12:07

Ah maybe I will bite the bullet and order the biggers saalt then. You've convinced me! Grin
