Hello :)
So, I noticed some time ago this vertical line on my fingernail. I trying not to Google it, but someone in my family says it could be something more concerning and I should fgo to GP and ask for some advise. I cane here to ask you first lovely people, is any of you have had something similar?? I really don't want to go to GP and take they time with something like my fingernail. I have seriously ill child at home and got many appointments with doctors and just feel stupid to go with something like this. What do you think, should I go?
Sorry for the picture, I know it's not a most lovely picture in the world 😊😊😁❤️ thank you for your help :)

Just finished up at dermatologist. Said line is of concern especially since it’s been there since Nov of 2022 and hasn’t gone away. Didn’t want to jump straight to biopsy today bc she mentioned you risk your nail not growing back. She asked questions like do I use my hands a lot of anything (job) of any sort. I told her washing dishes, etc. her recommendation for 1 month was using Amlactin on hands and also using cotton lined gloves with doing dishes and cooking. Also sleeping in cotton gloves. Biopsy in 1 month if it hasn’t gotten better or if it gets darker/bigger.

Hi! Just wondering if you had an update because I have the same thing. Thank you!

I went for a biopsy in September but when I got there, the doctor that would performing the nail surgery recommended that we not proceed at this time. He looked at the nail in depth in took pictures and said he didn't think it was anything of concern and that it was probably a onychopapilloma under the nail. He suggested we just follow up in 6 months to see if it had changed. So..... I went back in February for a 6 month follow up and there had been no growth/color changes/pain etc, so his recommendation was just to leave it alone. His main concern was that if they removed part of the nail, there's a chance it wouldn't go back and since his thoughts were that its benign, best to leave it alone unless its painful or has concerning changes.

The best advice I can offer is just to have a dermatologist lay eyes on it and get measurements, just in case.

Yes it went away eventually but took ages

I also have the same exact vertical line. It sometimes has light a black colourish (same as when you hurt your nail and there is like blood underneath), but it grows and goes away. I went to two different dermatologist, the first one was through NHS and they sent me to the cancer clinic, they said nothing to be concerned about, I insisted and they took pictures and follow up. Again same answer after 6 months. I still wasn’t convinced so went private, same answer. So I have now forgotten about it, and it has been there for years, no changes. Don’t worry too much about it unless it’s constantly black.
