Go and see a chiropractor - that is my advice. Doctors will just put him on tablets to take the pain away - a complete waste of time. It is a trapped nerve and needs manipulating.

Best positions of ease are:

Lying on back with pilows under knees.
Lying on side with painful leg uppermost, pillow between knees.
Some people find lying prone (on tummy) over several pillows also helpful.

Good easing exercises are lying on back with knees bent and gently roll knees from side to side.
or
Lying on tummy, keep legs and hips on floor and gently push up onto forarms.
About 10 of each ,x3/day
If exercises increase pain STOP

Other things to try are:
Paracetamol plus neurofen combo
Hot pack (20 mins)
Ice pack (pack of frozen peas wrapped up in damp tea towel) 10-15 mins.

Best thing is to avoid being in any position for too, long, gentle pottering about, but no lifting.

Pins and needles in groin/genital area, loss of bladder bowel function, legs giving way...need to seek medical advice asap.

He has my sympathies... it's sooooo painful. Agree with above - keep on the move, take anti-inflammatory painkillers. In my experience it flares up and goes away. Gentle movement exercises as above help me too.
No magic cure though.

Thanks so much, hes going to try to see someone tomorrow, not a doc and he'll do the exercises. Peace will once again return to the house lol

I agree with MadMumsy - get your dh to a chiropracter. I made my old man go when he had sciatica. He whined and moaned about going despite the painkillers and gentle exercise not working. He was worse than a toddler but nowhere near as cute. After the second vist, no more sciatica. He still whinges but then he's always been a grumpy old git!

Just make sure you choose a properly registered chiropracter.

Alternatively, kill your husband, bury his body under the patio and enjoy the peace and quiet.
