Could this be silent reflux?

Hello, can anybody help me.

My ds2 is 17 weeks old and has been quite unsettled since birth. I had colic problems with my dd so was hanging on until 12 weeks hoping things would improve. Since then however things have got worse. Does anybody think these symptoms indicate silent reflux?

  1. Trumps a lot
  2. small frequent feeds often resulting in him crying in discomfort
  3. wants to be held most of the time, sometimes cries unless I stand up and hold him
  4. can settle himself to sleep if he's tired, but sometimes wakes shortly after and has to feed to settle again
  5. huge drooling/dribbling
  6. VERY unsettled, often cries and hard to comfort

With 2 other dcs under 5 I am at my wits end. I have started him on gaviscon and will try and get an appointment with my gp next week.

My gp sent me to the hospital when he was 6 weeks because I was so distressed, but the young and inexperienced paedeatrician said it was colic.

dd had 2,3 and 6 , Has the Gaviscon been prescribed as you don't want to inadvertently mask other problems by using it inappropriately. It still might be colic. However since reflux isn't actually treatable apart from symptomatically it may not be helpful to hanker after a diagnosis, just do whatever helps (keep upright, prop up cot, feed little and often etc).

The gaviscon was prescribed when he was 6 weeks, but never used after the trip to see the paedeatrician. He has also seen a CO who says he can feel tightness around his diaphragm. I don't know whether to continue seeing the Co or pursue medication, or both! TBH I just want to know this will end and that I wil have a baby I can enjoy being with. It makes me so sad to see him so miserable and I feel my other 2 dcs are missing out on time with me.

charliemama, I would try the Gaviscon - but if it doesn't help, DO ask for another referral, and see if you can try other, better meds. My dd has reflux and was miserable until on Ranitidine and Domperidone - Gaviscon hardly helped, and constipated her instead of helping.

The only other thing I can think of is allergy - but I know nothing about that. Bumping fo ryou anyway!
