Dental emergency - I have found a lump [sad]

I have a major cold/flu like infection & I'm on A-B's

I have a crown on a root filling

I have a lump at the top of the gum above that tooth

Do I?
a) See dentist tomorrow
b) See dentist next week (assuming A-B's will reduce any swelling)
c) Cry
d) Panic

Ok well actually I'm doing c & d already

btw does this mean the end of my tooth - will I need a false tooth?

DON'T !!! I made that mistake when it was firts mentioned to me. You can search on my name if you like, I lived to tell the tale.

Katymac · 30/10/2007 21:25

I nearly did - then I decided not too

I'm not very good at the dentist - I have had lots of hypnotherapy to try & cure it

thats really good news-in the sense that your tooth hasn't been condemned! hope you don't need those root fillings.

louii · 30/10/2007 23:29

Rinse mouth with salt water every couple of hours, will also help.

Katymac · 31/10/2007 10:53

Feels very odd today - but the taste has subsided (or at least I can't taste it anymore......familiarity etc)

Dr gave me 7 days of 250 Amoxycillin for £6.85 (I think)

Dentist gave me 7 days of 500 Amoxycillin for £5

You need to go back to the dentist, I'm afraid!

Katymac · 08/11/2007 21:15

I don't want to

OP posts:
southeastastra · 08/11/2007 21:17

don't worry they numb it, you won't feel a thing - and you'll be on a nice high for a couple of hours

Katymac · 08/11/2007 21:18

They won't DO anything until the infection goes

OP posts:
southeastastra · 08/11/2007 21:24

you've had this for a long time, honestly you're spending too much time worrying about it, when you could have had it sorted

worrying is more hassle than the actual reality isn't it nudgey

Katymac · 08/11/2007 21:26

But after 2 lots of AB's it should be gone

The dentist said I was to go back after the second lot to have the 2 root canals re-done

He can't do it while I have the infection......surely?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 08/11/2007 21:34

ab will only reduce the swelling, you have to get the mangey bits taken out physically.

i hate the dentist too. my mouth is like an experiment that trainee 1970's dentists did. but going to the dentist doesn't bother me at all now.

i know it's hard katy

Katymac · 08/11/2007 21:37

Eeeewwwwwww

Not going

OP posts:
southeastastra · 08/11/2007 21:39

it will get worse and then you'll pay for them to take the tooth out!

you know you have to go

sarahhal · 08/11/2007 21:50

I've had the same with one of my teeth for years now Every couple of months the lump will come up, fill up with manky stuff then burst.Have seen more dentists and none of them have ever been bothered. Was actually at a new dentist today and he's going to try root canal but fears I'll lose the tooth. To make things worse theres another tooth needing root canal on the other side but that one is under a bridge!!

Tbh I just hope they take mine out as I'm sick of it.

It wont't be that bad Katymac - I honestly think that really bad toothache is so much worse than any other pain there is, so half an hour in the dentists compared to days of chronic pain is so worth it.

Katymac · 08/11/2007 21:51

la la la la la I'm not listening

This is 2 root canals next to each other that need re-doing

How many valium can I take at one time?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 08/11/2007 21:55

just think of the relief you'll have - no toothache.

no pain no gain you know the score

Katymac · 12/11/2007 15:19

Ok I made the appointment to see the dentist

2x1hr appointments to do 2 sodding root canals (for the second time) & my crowns may not survive being taken off so I might have to pay for them again
