Teen DD has pelvic pain in both ovaries?

What could it be? For the last 5/6 days she has had a sharp pain that comes and goes in the pelvic area on both sides around the ovary areas.

It could be related to her periods. I get really sharp pain in my ovaries about 2 weeks before my period, although it's usually only in one.

I would see how it relates to her cycle and if it stops accordingly. If not, I would see a doctor only because I had a friend who had Ewing's Sarcoma as a teen, and it manifests as a pelvic tumour. But it's also fairly rare, so I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. I just want to make you aware in case it does need investigated.

Thank you for the reply.

It could be to do with her period. It’s so hard to know.

I will call the doctors if she is still in pain when they reopen.

DD (15) has this. She hasn't started her period yet. She was meant to have a scan but C-19 has put that on hold. Had a blood test and nothing was picked up. Sorry - nothing useful for you but we're hoping things will settle when she eventually starts her periods.

could also be physical, short ligaments in hips due to hypermobility or too much sitting.

Theunamedcat · 01/01/2021 10:37

Does she track her periods?

GelisVanBorselen · 01/01/2021 10:40

Don't ignore it if it's cyclical. It can still indicate, for example, ovarian cysts and/or endometriosis. It should really be investigated although you might have trouble getting it taken seriously.

Thanks OP - and thank you to everyone who's responded. It's the push I need to get attention for my DD.

Sounds like ovulation pain to me. I used to have it really bad when I was a teenager, only thing that helped it was the pill.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 01/01/2021 11:13

Ovulation pain wouldn't be on both sides at the same time.

It could be a lot of things, but does need investigating.

Is she well hydrated? Its hard to precisely locate abdominal and pelvic pain, and its not always coming from the source it feels as though it originates from. By which I mean that although it could well be her overies, it could also be kidney pain.

You say tge last 5-6 days but not whether it's every month. If its not cyclical it could be kidney pain or something else entirely, even a bad uti (which can be serious, and can spread to the kidneys and become life threatening, so not to be ignored / belittled either!).

Thanks-didn’t realise I’d had more replies.

She has had her periods a couple of years now. It isn’t something she gets every month. It’s a new thing.

It comes and goes every day. She says it’s a pulsing pain and sometimes a sharp pain.

She doesn’t drink enough, so I have been pushing water, although it is still hurting.

CisMyArse - hope you get some help for your daughter.

Doctors open tomorrow, so I’ll call them. Thank you again for the replies.
