A few days ago my ds told me that his tummy was hard. He has a lump under his belly button. It's long rather than round and stretches across and around the bottom of his belly button. It's hard and red around it and he says it's sore to touch, although it didn't seem to be sore when I looked and felt it whilst he was asleep last night.

It is more pronounced when he is standing and seems to get worse throughout the day.

We have a gp appointment tomorow eve but I just wondered if anyone had any idea's what it could be in the mean time. I'm sure it's not a bite.

hernia?

Saturn74 · 25/10/2007 13:41

Possibly an umbilical hernia?

oh lulu, you nearly fooled me there for a moment with that name.

Hernia? What really at 5? I thought an umbilical hernia was normaly a birth thing. I also thought they were soft to touch, sort of popped in and out.

I don't think I'm worried about it but there is always the nagging what if and the dreaded LUMP word kinda scares me.

i know, i am so scary with this name !

lump is scary, but balance of probabilities, it is nothing too sinister

One of ds' friends had a hernia op a year or so back , he would have been 8.
