Can I get ABs for a UTI without a prescription?

I seem to remember hearing about a scheme where one could got antibiotics for a UTI directly from a pharmacist. This was a few years ago though...
I think I have my first one in about 15 years. I used to get them all the time in my 20s and they never went away without antibiotics. I’m in a tier 4 area (central London) and I’m guessing even getting through to the GP surgery tomorrow morning is going to be a nightmare after it’s been closed for 4 days.

You can get them from Superdrug online through their pharmacy service but it’s much quicker to ring 111 and speak to a doctor over the phone through there and they will fax / send a prescription to your nearest pharmacy for you to collect now or tomorrow.

No

But 111 have prescribed for me over the phone before for me to pick up from local London pharmacy

I have a stash of abx now for UTIs as I was averaging about 2 per month
Then prophylactic low dose abx

Thankfully been ok for a while but I feel your pain, it's hideous

Maybe - there’s a Boots test and treat scheme.

£10 Shock
You could buy 100 test strips on Amazon for that

Fosfomycin is the best stuff but you can't get it here

I've bought it in Hong Kong, Thailand & Spain and gets rid of a UTI within a couple of hours

@MozzchopsThirty you can get fosfomycin in the UK. It's not first line for a UTI as risk of anti microbial resistance but used for resistant UTIs. I'm a hospital pharmacist and see it being prescribed fairly often on microbiology recommendations.

Thank you, wise people. It was the Superdrug scheme I was half remembering. I’m going to drink lots of water, go to bed and try to sleep even though my crotch is on fire. As I say, I used to get them all the bloody time in my 20s but they stopped after I had children. I’d forgotten the agony!

The buggers always pick the worst time to show up too. Including on a road trip through the southwestern US and the day before my wedding 😬

Yes you can. I've used Lloyds pharmacy online but there are lots that do a private prescription. It just costs a bit more

Lightsabre · 28/12/2020 23:30

There are prescribing pharmacists but you'll need to ring around.
