I am hoping someone can help me. DD (6 months) cannot shake a tummy bug that just keeps coming back. She has diorrhea about 3 times a day but is hungry and eats ok, not great so cannot take her off milk as that is all she eats. I know people will say 24 hours off milk but completely impossible as she feels fine in herself. Having trouble weaning and docs also said to stop weaning till tummy clears up. But, this means she is waking at 4am starving. She has always been difficult to feed as is far to easily distracted, afternoons are the worst when I really want to be cluster feeding. Doc says it will pass..... help!!!!!! Anyone know of any 'solids' that help bung up a bit? Washing machine cannot take much more....

Mellie,
When my DS had a tummy bug/diarrhoea at about 7 months, the doc said when you give milk, just give them a little bit then a break then a bit more. I was giving him a full bottle and then it was immediately coming out the other end. Giving a little at a time (about 2oz) seemed to work for him. Doc also told me to stop weaning until the diarrhoea cleared up.
Hope she feels better soon

Thanks Myrtle1, she seems to save it all up for 4am! How long did you leave between feeds? Many thanks.

Try BRAT
Banana
Rice
Apple
Toast

Banana is known to bung up, so be careful, maybe some mashed up on toast, but listen to your gp, if they recommend no solids you should stick to it.

The last thing she ate before this wave of bugglies was apple so might give that a miss but will try Banana and Rice for sure. GP so vague, think he was just trying to get rid as he has no answers for me and we are into our 4th week. Might try to see HV on Friday. Many thanks!! Off to buy some Bananas....

I think DS was having 4 milk feeds during the day at the time and he was still waking in the night and probably have 1 or 2 in the night. He seemed to have the worst diarrhoea at night too and I remember being up at 2am and kind of stretching out his 6oz bottle over about 45 minutes (sorry) whereas he normally would have guzzled it all in 5 mins flat!
How is dd today?

DD was awake at 5am again having having pooed through her nappy, vest, babygro, grobag and bedsheet. Deeply joyus. Poor little thing, why does it happen in the early ours of the morning?

The thing is she is fine in herself, although I think we have reached a development plateau as she is very active but won't roll over or bear weight. Am concerned but the doc says not to worry at the moment. The diarrhoea has been on and off for about 6 weeks now, do you think I should go back to docs again this week?
