...if you are having your ovaries etc scanned?

I am accompanying a relative who is claustrophobic, and based on DS having his legs scanned, I told her I didn't think her head would have to go in. Now I think i am wring - and will need to prepare her for the truth!

I'm afraid I only know - ie don't know - from watching House where all of them does go in, but I suspect it's not a model of medical accuracy.

DottydotsofBloodOnTheFloor · 23/10/2007 19:52

I don't think so - but could be wrong, so that's not at all helpful. Sorry...

fingerwoman · 23/10/2007 19:52

I believe it does, but willing to be told otherwise.

I had an MRI done on my lower back and my whole body went into the "tunnel". I would think that if you suffered from claustrophobia it could be very distressing. (btw it's also really really noisy and they make you wear earplugs)

mazmack · 23/10/2007 20:06

Yes, your whole body will go in!

mazmack · 23/10/2007 20:07

Just had one done today in fact...didn't bother me at all but am not claustrophobic - my mum is and they told her to keep her eyes closed the whole time, apparently this really helped!!

constancereader · 23/10/2007 20:07

When I had mine done it was open at both ends, as I am claustrophobic I was relieved. You could find out if that is the case at the hospital your relative is going to.

I had dd2 scanned in utero and all of me went in

in some places tho they give you headphones and a choice of music

southeastastra · 23/10/2007 20:11

my dp has to have one soon too.

Blu · 23/10/2007 20:12

Thanks everyone.

The tip about keeping eyes closed is a good one.

MRI scans cost £1000!

I had an MRI head scan once - was told to bring in a CD as they'd play it through headphones for me.

Took in one of my favourites, put headphones on and was told to keep very still. They then proceeded to play Enya, which wasn't my CD! I got the giggles but couldn't move and couldn't let them know. Had to listen to blardy Enya for 40 minutes..!

CappuScreamO · 23/10/2007 20:27

I think dh got some gangsta rap, which wasn't what he'd asked for either!

mazmack · 23/10/2007 20:29

The one I was in was open at both ends, and it blew air over you...actually...call me weird, but I found it quite relaxing to be able to lie still for 30 minutes and not be looking after my hyperactive 1 year old
