What are my options if my Dr wont help me?

For several years I have had digestive problems. About 2 years ago my Dr did some blood tests to rule out cancer, Crohns etc. I was referred to a dietician and after a several appointements got to one who out me on a Fodmap diet, gave me some leaflets and left me to it.

The Fodmap diet immediately helped a lot of my symptoms however I still have daily discomfort. Sometimes it feel like I have somethihg hard and painful inside. Sometimes it feels like my ribs are badly bruised from the inside. Sometimes I feel like I have difficulty breathing, as though my insides were inflamed. Always I have a discomfort/pain deep in my belly. In the last few years my weight has gone up hugely (size 12 to size 20).

My Dr (who these days calls back around 9 am however late in the afternoon the appt is) tells me I just have IBS and I should just deal with it. He has told me to go to a private dietician if I am still worried.

My questions are:

  1. Since there is still a problem shouldn't he be concerned about trying to discover what it is?
  1. I am autistic and never get good help from my doctors, who seem unable to listen/understand my problems. I tend to leave going to them for a long time (2 years since I last saw this one) do I just have to keep going back until they do something? what is a good time frame for trying again?
  1. Do I just give up and live with daily discomfort?

Get another GPs opinion for a camera and if necessary a referral to gastroenterology.

I recently saw a hospital consultant with regards to gallstones, whilst talking to him I mentioned my digestive issues and he advised that ibs should not be diagnosed without ruling out other causes. He booked me in for a colonoscopy, gastroscopy and small bowel mri.

Could you ask for a referral to gastro from your gp.
