Help extremely worried I have cancer

Apinke · 18/12/2020 09:18

I have been having abdominal pain for sometime .I have had an endoscopy, ultrasound scan ,CT scan with contrast and apart from gallstones and the latest CT saw a small liver lesion that they said was probably benign .I have had two stool
Tests too for heliobacter and they were all clear.I told the dr I would like a colonoscopy but he was so dismissive and he refused to give me one .

The pain is to the left side and now all over my stomach at times and the consultants registrar that I saw said it was probably my abdominal nerves but I don't think so.I called the GP Yesteray and sent me for a stool test for fecal calprotectin after seeing mucus in my stool .
I have no blood on my stool .I weighed myself yesterday and found myself to be 88kg and I was 'weighing 91 previously .

I have convinced myself I have bowel cancer and I am sick with worry .I just called the gp now to notify about the weight and they have no appointments.can someone advise me .I have 3 very young chikdren and I am worried I am going to die .

I hope you get a test to rule bowel cancer out. It's worrying when you don't know what's wrong I'm in similar position unexplained abdo pain had ct colonoscopy yesterday no results yet. Also had a gastroscopy took biopsies on that too.

Crap waiting for these kinds of results around Christmas Confused

@Apinke I am going through similar I've recently had a CT with contrast dye, ultrasound, cystscopy and sigmoidoscopy which showed diverticula . I'm now booked to have a colonoscopy the first week of January.
Has diverticulitis been mentioned to you?
I get the worry though I'm scared so keep away from google after distressing myself a few weeks back! google is not a good idea!

A friend had hideous stomach pains, lots of stool tests for bowel cancer, lots of gynae investigations as the pain was low down.

Turned out to be her gall bladder 🤷🏽‍♀️

sconenotscon · 18/12/2020 21:38

Please don't jump to any conclusions OP!

A family member had similar to what you describe (pain in left side, mucus in stools) and was eventually diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Long story short all stool tests came back negative for any bugs, blood tests were all OK so he had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed on the spot. It's been a pain to get under control but it's nothing sinister and can be managed and he has an excellent quality of life now.

Please please stay away from Dr Google. I know it's easier said than done because I am an anxious Googler too. What I will say is Google has diagnosed me with a myriad of life threatening diseases and I'm still here Grin

Absolutely push for a colonoscopy because if it is IBD (Crohn's, colitis, proctitis, irritable bowel) you may need a course of treatment

Best of luck

OP - sorry to ask an intrusive question- have you had any abdominal surgery? C-section?? I had similar to you, I couldn’t walk some days.. it was adhesions from a crash c-section on the opposite side of the pain. I had surgery and when I woke up I felt I’d gained 3 inches in height from being able to stand better

Yes they saw gallstones but said cos my pain is left side ,it's unlikely to be the gall bladder

My friends saga went on for nearly 2 years before the pain moved/A&E visit found the gallstones.

Honestly it was awful and the pain was nowhere near her gallbladder it was all referred pain.

Lougle · 18/12/2020 22:28

I wouldn't worry about the weight loss immediately 2kg can be just a fluctuation due to menstrual cycle.

Itonlytakesone · 18/12/2020 22:33

I wonder what I'll be diagnosed with after reading through all the possibilities on here it still could be anything with me. I'm hoping the ct colonoscopy is good for diagnosis? Results no idea when these will come through. Iv been struggling since June with something bowel/bladder/gynae related obviously all close together so I'm under a couple of consultants while it's investigated.

I need to stop googling late into the night 🙈

Thisisworsethananticpated · 18/12/2020 23:50

Firstly don’t google it OP
I know it’s hard not to but its very unhelpful Flowers for you
Instead focus on getting into
Communication with NHS , with direct focus on the issues that concern you the most and a timeline

Thisisworsethananticpated · 18/12/2020 23:54

I would never Dare to speculate on anyone’s health
But the symptoms you have could come From a range of issues , not only cancer
So having so much data come up when searching must be scary .

Keep trying to speak to people via GP referrals and email etc

Been following this thread as my partner has been having left sided pain down low for months, seems to eat something and will get an "attack" which leaves him in agony for a couple of before it tails off. He's convinced it's a bowel issue. Gp won't refer him for any tests due to covid
He's suffered from ibs a lot but said this feels different almost like there is a blockage. He also came out in hives randomly all around his groin and lower stomach area when this last attack happened and his glands were up in his armpits but the doctor still said it's nothing. Anyone have any advice ?

RandomMess · 19/12/2020 09:47

Go to A&E when he has an attack would be my advice!

Itonlytakesone · 19/12/2020 10:53

@elsaesmeralda

The Gp can't not refer him surely. Get a second opinion. Iv had lower left digestion pains for months and I'm being investigated for a possible obstruction so I'll let you know how I get on. I was getting nausea bloating after eating and no stools or gas for days then diarrhoea (apparently it sounded like overflow around a blockage)

I hope he feels ok. I tried having soups & smoothies to help foods pass through me easier, this has and is still helping although it's very boring especially over Christmas and Iv lost weight but I'm just trying to get by until the problem is found Confused

elsaesmeralda · 21/12/2020 10:06

So he's been diagnosed with a big gallstone. But can this cause lower left pain and constipation and loose stools? Doesn't seem likely

Heyhohey · 21/12/2020 10:54

I have been struggling since June with a change of bowel habits. I have a mixture of constipation and diarrhoea and mucus in my stool. I have a lot of tummy gurgling and trapped wind. I also started getting really painful pains on my right just under my ribs after eating food like cheese.

I ended up having an ultrasound and I have been found to have gallstones.

My gp has advised the gallstones would not be causing any of the symptoms other then the pain and has said that as ibs is common it’s most likely that and gallstones but I’m not really sure.

kissmelittleass · 21/12/2020 14:24

@Heyhohey your symptoms are very similar to mine and a sigmoidoscopy last month revealed diverticula so I'm also due for a colonoscopy first week of January.
My doctor constantly told me it's only ibs but I told her you can only say it's ibs after everything else has been ruled out!! Was also told this after telling a gynae doctor my other issues! My doctor was not impressed!! So do not take ibs as your condition until everything else has been ruled out is my advice.

Heyhohey · 21/12/2020 14:32

@kissmelittleass thank you. I have also spoken to the consultant at the hospital with regards to my gallstones and he has requested I have a colonoscopy, gastroscopy and small bowel mri to investigate as he says gallstones wouldn’t cause these other issues. I actually delayed the small bowel mri as it was due yesterday but I didn’t want to have it until after Christmas so booked for middle of January. I am scared for it though as you have to have a laxative right before you go into the scan and worried I’ll need a toilet.

Heyhohey · 21/12/2020 14:54

Op have you had any changes in your bowel movements?

kissmelittleass · 21/12/2020 15:13

@Great you've been referred, I know the worry I was given two enema's before the sigmoidoscopy and had to run for the toilet it was awful I felt so embarrassed!
I'm booked in for my colonoscopy on the 8th January and I'm delighted I'm finally getting it done but that said I'm scared so actually dreading it!
I received a prescription for the prep to start the evening before and a diet sheet about eating bland from five days before so I'm not looking forward to it at all!!

kissmelittleass · 21/12/2020 15:14

@Heyhohey for last post not great!!

Heyhohey · 21/12/2020 15:24

@kissmelittleass I had the prep posted to me direct from the hospital. I have the one for the mri and the one for the colonoscopy. I missed a call to book me in for the colonoscopy but they left a message saying they would call again yet they haven’t so far. I think I am more worried about the prep and having an accident then I am about the procedure.
