Viral Arthritis

I've been feeling knackered with painful achy joints for a month or so now and finally went to the GP yesterday who said my glands are huge (I hadn't noticed) and my throat and ears are very inflamed and that it's viral arthritis - it'll take another six to eight weeks to clear.

Stories with happy (ie, you'll be fine by tomorrow) endings please....

oh poor you!

That sounds rubbish! Did he give you anything?
It might be worth asking in your health shop to see if they can recommend a homeopathic remedy as well - I swear by it.
In the meantime stay in the warm, cosy tea shop for lots of cake and sympathy

saltire · 23/10/2007 08:52

I've never had viral Arthritis (never heard of it TBH), but a few years ago I got a very sore throat and ears that wouldn't go away and I was diagnosed with Viral flu. I hate to tell you this but I was off work for 4/5 weeks, and although I felt ok in myself I was very tired.
I have fibromyalgia, which causes a lot of pain in my muscles and makes me really tired so I can sympathsise with how you feel

I used to heat up one of those wheat bags in teh microwave and wrap it round my neck

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 08:53

Just take anti-inflamatories and get on with it unfortunately. Thank you for the tea and cake offer

You need to keep your joints warm, try some wheat packs or hot water bottles, or even just sitting down with a blanket over you

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 08:59

Thanks Saltire - I'll have a snuggle day with DD then Saying that, I am meant to be taking her swimming later and meeting a friend at the gym tonight

Lil - I had arthritis as a reaction to Strep. It was vile and you have my sympathy, the mornings were the worst. Mine was quite an acute flare-up, bit of a headache and sore throat one day and bedridden the next. It worst of it was over in about 10 days with anti-b's for the Strep and anti-inflammatories for the arthritis. But the general aches went on for quite some time.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 09:24

Poor you. Hopefully I'll not get that bad. DH'll think it's psychosomatic if I do.

I may do Popsy - I'm definitely taking DD swimming though - she loves it and it's not her fault I'm feeling rough.

lol - men - I bet he'd be moaning his head off if it were him.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 09:29

light swimming should be ok - takes the stress off your joints

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 09:30

That's the thing Saggar - DH is not a typical man. He doesn't get man-flu, he gets a bit of a sniffle and tells me he's fine.
