i woke up this morning with one foot feeling very cold despite being under the covers. as the day has gone on it still feels cold, not really cold though, and is slightly pain from the shin down.

no swelling, no discolouring of the flesh etc.

just pain and feels cold.

trapped nerve??

3Ddonut · 21/10/2007 20:08

LVC, can you feel a pulse in the cold foot, it's quite hard to find it, so practice on the warm foot!!!! It should be in line with your big toe about half way up your foot.

NAB3 · 21/10/2007 20:08

Oh, I know. was just saying I had it. Turned out to be nothing.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:25

have found pulse. is quite hard to do isnt it.

Is it numb or less pink than the other foot?
If it is simply colder then I wouldn't worry too much right now. If it persists I might go to the GP next week. But if it is numb or less pink then I might be concerned.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:34

no different colour at all.

just feels cold and painful.

LVC that's what I was hoping to hear, I was concerned that the blood flow was somehow restricted but if pulse present, blood is getting round!! you say you have some pain in your calf, is it red, or warm (you mentioned there's no swelling)

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:42

not red/warm at all.

peter says his clot felt like aburning numbness.

he does say that foot is colder than the other but not by much.

Ok, this is the worry I have here, a DVT or clot on the leg is a serious issue as I'm sure you know, you don't have the typical hot, red, swollen leg symptoms and I'm sorry to worry you but I have seen a DVT with just cold extremeties, I would suggest you get in to see your GP tomorrow, I would ask for an emergency appointment if that's all that they offer you.

The risk factors for DVT in younger people who are active are smoking and contraceptive pill. I hope that I'm being OTT and I am sorry to worry you but I see it's on your mind already but I would rather that you treat this with some urgency and get it checked out now. I really hope I am wrong. good luck. There are of course, other reasons for the cold foot but I am being cautious on your behalf in eliminating the most urgent possible cause.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:50

it also concerns me 3d, as both sister were diagnosed with protein s deficiancy recently, but both when pregnant. i havent got round to getting my own test sorted.

should i pop down to out of hours tonight?

3Ddonut · 21/10/2007 20:53

If you're that worried you could, it might actually be easier than trying to get into your GP tomorrow....! If it is a DVT then prompt treatment is best and easy. I would be quite firm with docs as they may try to dismiss it as you don't have the typical symptoms, make a fuss of the pain in the shin as well as that is more typical. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:56

its like a stabbing pain in my shin,. not overly painful though. i'm not hopping about screeching. more like muttering and wincing a bit. and the cold feels like its more centred and not flesh cold iykwim. like my foot is cold inside.

I have been told from patients that DVt pain is like a cramp... why don't you run it by NHS direct they're probably more qualified than me to advise. You haven't hurt your back have you?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:59

no my back is fine. will try nhs direct. thanks for all your help.

OP posts:
3Ddonut · 22/10/2007 21:43

yes, very odd, perhaps a trapped nerve that suddenly released itself!!!!!!! Still, glad all is well.
