Gallstones and diarrhoea after eating fatty food

I am currently waiting an appointment for gallstones op. Whilst waiting I have been watching my fat intake as advised however due to being really busy Friday and yesterday I just grabbed convenient food that was higher in fat then I have been eating.

This morning I have had bad diarrhoea and am wondering if this could be linked to the gallstones and the fat intake? The last biliary attack that I had was last week in the early hours of Friday.

I had really bad diarrhoea with gallstones. Just recovering from its removal thank goodness.

@pumpingRSI did you get the diarrhoea often can I ask?

Glad you’ve had the op and hope you recover quickly Flowers

Yes its connected it could also be a yellow colour. I'm waiting for an op to have mine removed.

lostandfound55 · 07/12/2020 17:23

Thanks sitdown, I wasn’t sure if it was connected as somethings I read say it is and other things say it isn’t.

Hope you don’t have to wait too long.

I had mine done about 14 years ago and even now I have diarrhea when I eat a lot of fat, sorry OP Xmas Blushbut I do think it's quite rare and you should be healed up in no time Thanks

lostandfound55 · 07/12/2020 20:28

Thanks both. Sorry to hear you still have some problems ziggazig.

Sit down that is a long wait, have they given you any advice on when it might be? I was advised a 9 month wait but only been waiting since October but a&e say they have tried to speed up the referral but not sure if that will make any difference.

I had my gallbladder out a year and a half ago after my little boy was born...I waited around 4 months to have a scan which confirmed gallstones and then I had keyhole to remove the gallbladder around 4 months later...I was seen as an NHS patient but at a private hospital as I think they must of been helping to try and reduce waiting lists...the op was fine and didn't take long to recover...had 2 weeks off work...I didn't have any diaorhea when I had the gallstones but since it's been removed like another poster said I do get it when eating fatty/spicy foods x

I'm awaiting an op too. Fun.

I think I may be joining you soon. Kind of dull ache under ribs which seems to go as far as belly button and low right abdomen. Gurgling stomach, occasional upset tummy, and last few days noticed a yellowish hue when I "go". GP prodded me about a month ago and at one point I yelled. My mum had her gallbladder out and I think her sister and mum did too. I have scan on 20th Jan.
This morning everything really hurt and then I thought about the quite fatty meat and roast in fat potatoes yesterday. Hmm.
I've had a couple of occasions when I've actually thought I had trapped wind but it was so painful it was like a vice going into my shoulder and even jaw. Which seems quite textbook too.

Sitdowncupoftea · 07/12/2020 21:36

@TheSilentStars try peppermint tea.

XmasHollie · 07/12/2020 22:21

I've got dull pain in the middle of my ribs. Diarrboea after anything fatty. I had ct abdo 6 months ago that showed nothing so will have bloods tomorrow and booked for a scan

pumpingRSI · 07/12/2020 23:19

So many gallbladders going wrong, I blame COVID-19 and admittedly my only minor excess during that time. Diarrhoea def part of what I ate and yellow and came on v suddenly. 4 days post op and starting to be more comfortable.

lostandfound55 · 08/12/2020 12:41

Glad your starting to feel better pumping.

Sorry to everyone else suffering, I think I’m finding the buscopan prescribed to try and stop the gallbladder spasms may be what is affecting my bowels but hard to tell as when I stop taking the buscopan I get an attack.

I'll try that, thanks. I have peppermint oil capsules which I take most days and they do seem to help.
Not bad today, but I've kept off the cheese and fatty stuff.

TheCatsAss · 08/12/2020 19:40

Had mine out - you can buy digestive enzyme tablets that help out (ox bile! Hmm) if you knows fatty meal is on the cards. Pop one during the meal with water. Not expensive, can get from Amazon.

Not something that you should
do as routine I don't think but certainly helps with discomfort / diarrhoea, has no effect on your gallstones I don't think if you are waiting for the op.
