I thought I would share my experience with you all as I could not find anything on the Internet regarding my symptoms. I used to eat a lot of salad & would buy a bag of it daily. Here’s me thinking I must eat lots of salad for vitamins, iron etc and I done this for years. I then noticed my stomach was really bloated, extended even though my diet was healthy. If I tried to eat less my body would massively crave food & I would feel dizzy. I thought putting on weight happens to people in their 40’s. I remember as a kid thinking why do a lot of older women have bloated / extended stomachs. I knew my diet was good and my stomach kept getting gradually bigger. Months afterwards I started to get really itchy legs and head. I felt fluttering feelings inside my body/ upper stomach area. I noticed my nails were not strong, quite brittle no matter how much calcium I took. I put it down to stress and tried relaxing, having baths etc. My anus was itchy/ sore at times and I was drained in energy. After doing loads of research on the Internet after not wanting to have ‘stress’ recorded on my doctors record due to my job. I narrowed it down what was wrong with me. I had some sort of worm in my body and they can be easily caught from uncooked foods like salad. I took 3 Flucanazole tablets, waited 2 weeks then took another 3 tablets then repeated this cycle once more. It was definitely worms as I saw them in the loo in the end. I then was left with a fungal infection in my body. The fungal infection made part of my anus actually feel sore and I got a raised scab of this infection on my head. I got 3 weeks medication for Itracanazole from my doctor. I could feel my stomach contracting on a daily basis, the feeling was pure elation knowing I was not going to have an extended tummy anymore. I have now dropped 3 trouser sizes, I’m eating as normal without any uncooked food and I have loads of energy, the itchiness has gone & I’ve never felt this good since I was a teenager. Never touching another bit of uncooked food & I’m going to take worming tablets every year now. I thought I would let you know my experience as it has been awful & it went on for years but you might be going through similar. I discovered that over half the population have got worms in their body. They can be there for years and you won’t know about it. It causes morbidity in the end. After years of diets and thinking why can’t I diet, I know why now. The worms were probably making me feel really ill if they didn’t get food too! Basically, they take most of the vitamins from your body, that’s why my nails were weak. My nails are growing strong now. Not had nice, strong nails for years! It worked out great for me in the end & I now feel years younger!

Congratulations!!!, that must have been such journey. Most health authorities in developing countries recommend regular deworming in young children and if any child has symptoms of worms then whole family has to do the deworming course.
It is frustrating that doctors in developed countries don't even think about parasites or worms in diagnosis and so many people have to needlessly suffer.
My other gripe is iodised salt, UK rejected it long ago and now so many people have low thyroid function.
But I am really happy for you. I don't eat uncooked food including salads for the same reason. Years before I had some horrible bloating issues and after suffering a doctor prescribed me ornidazole (anti parasitic) . Funnily I saw the doctor when I was on an overseas trip and my regular GP kept telling me I had IBS.

Hi. So glad you sorted out your issues. It’s terrible that there is not enough information on the Internet about this issue. . I trawled the Internet for months and found very little information. I’m glad you sorted out your issues - really happy for you too. I’m never going to touch another salad or uncooked foods. It actually makes me feel ill now the thought of it. I bet a lot of people think they have IBS & it’s actually worms. I actually thought at one point I was allergic to gluten. I knew something was wrong but couldn’t figure it out. I really do think people should taking worming tablets every year! I’m going to just to be on the safe side. It’s actually horrendous the amount of people who might have worms & it’s never spoken about. It’s interesting that the itchy legs, itch back, weak finger nails, extended stomach & feeling dizzy & unable to diet was all done to the worms. I’m now losing quite a lot of weight - just glad I’m out of that awful experience. Thanks for your reply. Take care.

Yikes

Yikes too.

Well done for working that out! The itching was weird.

Another one who gripes about iodine. Vegan and even vegetarian diets are leaving many deficient which is really important for young and pregnant women.

(There are researchers lobbying for more awareness though.)

I read a hilarious thread about worms here but it did make me get tablets to keep in the cupboard.

We had an outbreak at school.
