Stupid question and its too late now but did they show you how to fall properly?

Am sniggering to myself as I snowboard and I know how bloody painful it is when you fall on your arse

Just take it easy and take some painkillers.
But I would maybe get it checked out by a doctor incase you have done other damage to your back.

ouch . When I injured my coccyx having ds it was a case of rest without putting pressure on (an inflatable neck pillow was good), arnica and cold pack. Nurofen is probably worth a try.

You could try some homeopathy - Hypericum is good for injuries to the coccyx, especially if the nerves have been involved. Worth a try. Go for the potency rather than the cream, you can get it in a health food shop at 30c. Take one dissolved in water, sip over a few days and see if it has any effect :-)

you can still go a&e, dh did his elbow on ski trip, went to a&e a week later when we got back as it was stil sore. it was broken.

i've done coccyx roller blading, and am still suffeing thru various back probs 10yrs later, get it checked to be sure.

You need a cushion to sit on with a cut-away part at the back for your coccyx to hang down at back, so there's no pressure on it.

It is agony, I only bruised mine once and hit hurt for weeks. Poor thing.

dyzzidi · 20/10/2007 21:05

I broke mine and believe me sitting down will not be same agian for about 3 months.

I still get pains 6 months on if I sit in one position for too long. Hairdresser trips are a nightmare as is working in an office!

i went snowboarding and did this too...actgually i slipped on ice going to the airport coach at the end of the holiday and had an agonising transfer to the airport for two hours where i had to see a doc before i was allowed to fly...i also broke two ribs so the journey was agony

the injuries took about 6 months to recover from fully no probs now

bran · 20/10/2007 21:26

That link I gave also had loads of suggestions for things that you might have to hand that would help until the cushion turns up (like a breastfeeding support cushion or a swimming noodle).

Hulababy · 20/10/2007 21:29

I broke my coccyx years ago - well it was assumed I had. They don't xray and there is nothing they can do even if you have. It's just time.

I remember the pain and you have my sympathies. The pain will gradually become less over time. I remember a rubber ring and cushions being my good friends for a good while.

Even now, some 20 odd years on it sill hurts if I sit for too long, or sit on hard surfaces.

TenderheartBear · 20/10/2007 21:48

4 xrays of the coccyx?? thats a bit extreme, at the most maybe 2. did they get you to complete a pregnancy status before the xray?

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 20/10/2007 22:04

An osteopath should be able to help.

See here for some info

I mean here

ArmadilloDaMan · 21/10/2007 11:07

It would be worth getting a cushion if you are sitting down all day.

I damaged my coccyx about 2 years ago falling down the stairs. It was about 6 months before I could sit down for long periods with pain. Even now I still get some if for example I am ill and in bed for a long time.

WriggleJiggle · 21/10/2007 11:13

No advice here, I'm far to jealous that you were snowboarding to even attempt being nice.
Now will probably spend all day wishing for a sudden snowstorm and for hills to miraculously appear .

I wonder if I should dig my board out of the garage and gaze longinly at it.
