Should I get dentist to have a look at jaw

I am due to book in for a dental cleaning soon.

One side of my jaw has been tender over the past few months. There's no major pain. Just some tenderness in the cheek bone and the joint where the mouth opens and closes. I was hit into my cheek on that side of my face last spring and I think it might be all connected. I don't feel a lump or a spot but there is definitely some tenderness when I press on my cheek and also when I brush my teeth. If I press the toothbrush back far enough into my mouth and into the location where the mouth opens and closes, there is some tenderness there too. There is no teeth there in my mouth.

It's only on one side of my face. I know there's an issue there because the other side of my face is fine with no tenderness.

Should I get him to have a look at my jaw while there or is this an issue for my GP?

No harm in asking, especially if you haven't had dental x rays for a while

I just saw GP this am for the same issue. He did ask if I had sustained any impact. Mine is caused by jaw clenching. He recommended paracetomol and a trip to the dentist. However it is not an emergency so I won't get an appointment at the moment. Going to try a night time mouth guard. One thing he did was check if it clicks when fully open. This can cause jaw locking I think. Mine soft clicks but always did. Also did test to check cranial nerve, follow this, can you feel this etc. Glad I went as suspected an ear infection. Should ease up over time.

Yep defo go to the dentist. They will refer you to a dental hospital for treatment. I’m currently waiting for my appointment there due to having the same issue except mines from something else.
