What can cause sudden, constant indigestion ?

So the last few months I’ve had bouts of acid indigestion and heartburn that have become increasingly noticeable and annoying.
Never suffered before in my life apart from during pregnancy, when it’s been a nightmare and I’ve had it all the way through each time.
I’m single and not pregnant.
Every single time I eat I have it. Small amount/ large amount/ bland / spicy... doesn’t matter. I’m taking something most days to manage it.
I haven’t changed my diet and I don’t seem to have any noticeable digestive issues other than this. Any ideas?

@Buzzthedragon have you had symptomatic Covid or had any suspicions that you may be asymptomatic.

The issue became so serious, so quickly, for me that I now question whether I have been exposed and this is how it has played out in me.

I am on the extremely vulnerable list and have pretty much self isolated since March although I walk every day. So I shouldn’t have been exposed but still I wonder.

My daughter recently spoke to her G. P as she had been suffering with acid indigestion. First question the G. P asked was how much tea and coffee she drank as caffeine can be a major cause. My daughter then realised that since working from home she'd been drinking much more of both and now, since changing to decaffeinated tea and coffee, has been completely indigestion free!

I had the same symptoms, went to my GP.She referred me for an untrasound.
I was diagnosed with IBS but still continue with daily symptoms
Just by sheer impulse I bought some Yakult, and it seems to have sorted me out.I ran out 3 days ago and have the symptoms back.Does it work? ....I don't know why or how but it has for me .

Thank you.
I will cut out caffeine and get some yakult and see how it goes Smile

Keep a food diary too!

It sounds very much like gastritis but I'm sure the GP will provide you with advice and possible PPIs that are stronger than OTC.

Flare ups can last months - hope the Yakult helps!

Good luck, hope you see an improvement in your symptoms.

@Buzzthedragon

Perhaps it is just part of getting older , I’m not sure?
No. It's not.

Hope you find the cause, and an easy cure.

I had something similar recently. I have cut out alcohol (wasn’t a big drinker but a v stressful job during covid had seen me having a glass of red wine several times a week) and I took a week long course of over the counter omeprazole. It’s made a BIG difference. That said. I’m also making a GP
appt. Gastric issues (gastritis, cholecystitis, coeliac) run in my family so definitely needs a look at and I’d suggest the same for you. In my case I think there’s an element of physiological symptoms of anxiety if that makes sense? I don’t feel particularly anxious but I think my body is manifesting it anyway

Hi op. Have you had any luck with this yet? I feel like I've developed this too. Since Wednesday I've had a discomfort in my upper abdomen just under my ribs in the centre. I've never had indigestion before. Its been there every day all day since I woke up Wednesday. I'm burping a lot and taking Gaviscon but it's not really working.

I've been under a lot of stress lately so assumed it's that but I'm pretty worried I'm about to have a heart attack or something!
