Gym Membership - How Much?

Can anyone tell me roughly how much a family membership to a gym costs these days?

I mean the sort you get in a hotel (Livingwell etc etc)

I pay £35 a month for off peak membership. DD is £12 a month on top - but I only make her member during the longer school holidays. That is for a separate chain type gym, not in a hotel though.

Our local Virgin Gym worked out at £40 a month for me (no off peak option) and £12 a month for DD.

We are in Sheffield.

McDreamy · 19/10/2007 21:15

Think we paid about 70 a month for the 4 of us in a hotel just outside York.

andyrobo237 · 19/10/2007 21:15

Well - a standard adult membership would be about £40 each, so for a couple you can usually get that for £75. Some places throw kids in free, some not, so I reckon you would get no change from £100 per month!

FrayedKnot · 19/10/2007 21:18

I figured about £40 (would have to be peak)..wondered if it would be less each if we joined as a family.

We used to go to a Holmes Place. It was about £50 a month for me, £15 for DS and £10 for DD (with any creche time additional at £3.50 an hour). Now it's been taken over by Virgin but i haven't rejoined yet.

cor-we are being ripped off

about £120 a month for DH, DD who is 11 and DS who is 8.

Beadgirl · 19/10/2007 22:26

that is david lloyd btw

corblimeycharlie · 19/10/2007 22:32

We are members at Esporta and it costs £120 per month for 2 peak adults and one over 5yr old child.
Sounds a lot compared to some people on here.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2007 22:34

My off-peak (9-4) Esporta membership is £56 per month. Ds1 would be £18pcm and Ds2 is free and he's under 5.

FrayedKnot · 19/10/2007 22:42

There does seem to be quite a big difference doesn;t there. Well I will go to a couple of local ones and find out.

The Pruhealth thing looks interesting, but the nearest gym for me is on the other side of town and I'm not sure if I would go, and DH probably wouldn;t...darn.

I already pay a small amount a month for healthcare (part subsidized by work) so if I did this instead, the gym would effectively be costing me £22 a month.

Very tempting!!

dh and I have membership at our local council run leisure centre. This includes pool(s), sauna, steam room, gym (with better equipment than I ever used at a private gym) and includes all classes. £30 a month for us both (about £10 a month off as I work in the nhs who subsidise memberships).
