I stopped taking the pill about 6 weeks ago as I'd been having a lot of irregular bleeding. About 2 weeks after that I started to feel horrible... nauseous, pelvic pain, headache, constipated. It lasted for a few days then then 2 weeks later my period started so I assumed the symptoms had been ovulation. I felt dreadful again the few days before my period had started, assumed pms.

Now again 2 weeks later the pelvic pain, headache and nausea have started. Can ovulation really feel like this? I've been on the pill for my whole adult life apart from being pregnant so don't really have much to compare this to.

Im really regretting ever having come off the pill. I feel anxious, depressed and am having these really unpleasant symptoms. I suppose what I'm asking is does anyone else have unpleasant symptoms on the days around ovulation? And has anyone else experienced bad ovulation and pms symptoms after coming off the pill (which might have calmed down after a while🤞!!)

I've just re read that, sorry for all the waffle! I'm also a bit foggy headed and not thinking straight!

Bumping... would love to hear something reassuring, am really struggling with anxiety today.

I'm on the progesterone only mini pill to control exactly these symptoms, plus terrible stabby pains and rage. It's working, but it's taken 8 months so far to get to where I hardy notice any symptoms at all with a slow improvement month by month so far

ScarlettDarling · 28/11/2020 15:17

Oh @lubeybooby thanks for replying. I’ve just stopped taking the mini pill😫 and the symptoms have started ever since then! Reassuring to know other people have had these symptoms with ovulation though, my health anxiety has had me convinced it’s ovarian or bowel cancer. So fed up!

Ovulation time for me = bloating, tender tummy, constipation, feeling generally rubbish. Although not every month, so I wonder if one of my ovaries has a little cyst or something, and is causing the symptoms when it’s that one’s turn to ovulate. Who knows. I’ve had this for ages, long before kids, and I’ve had scans of my ovaries (during pregnancy and prior to pregnancy due to irregular bleeding), which were fine, so I assume it’s some variation of normal!

ScarlettDarling · 28/11/2020 19:06

@nomorespaghetti thanks for replying. Can I ask how long the feelings last? It started on Thursday for me and I still have the tender, full feeling. Not painful enough for painkillers but very uncomfortable.

Yes, always.

A pain on my side (lasts around a day), plus I get a bloated tummy and weight gain. But this quickly goes down after a couple of days. Also discharge, needing to wee more, constipation

MeowMeowLikeACow · 28/11/2020 19:23

I've got the mirena now which has helped a bit, but before then: bloated, constipated, and awful, debilitating pelvic pain that makes me want to rip my insides out.

lubeybooby · 28/11/2020 19:23

Aw, op - yeah any time I've left my cycle to nature the ovulation stage is just such a nightmare. I feel for you.

ScarlettDarling · 28/11/2020 19:49

Thanks all for the replies. Tmi here but when I sit down heavily or run upstairs I can feel the pain in my bum, as though it's my bowel that's the problem. Am really hoping it's just my hormones trying to stabilise after so many years on the pill.

Can I just say that several years ago (40-ish) I used to get this terrible pain every few weeks - really stabbing pains for about 1hr or so where tears would pour down my cheeks. I was in absolute agony. It took months for me to work out Bloody hell, it hurts when I ovulate now. Must be as I get older.

Reader, I had a dermoid cyst the size of a baby's head by the time I got investigated, and had cyst and ovary out. My GP kept saying, But weren't you in pain? and when I agreed I was he looked slightly stunned and said, You should get pain checked out.

I would see a doctor, anyone who is worried. I do think a lot of us have a tendency to dismiss things and just carry on going...

Sunnysideup999 · 28/11/2020 20:07

I have ovulation pain each month - particularly on the right ovary. Lasts a day.
Also discharge, constipation and bloating. And needing to wee lots. Sometimes feels like a uti even though it’s not.
My mood is generally calmer and more positive during the week I ovulate (weird considering symptoms above).!

MrsMaryBOOface · 28/11/2020 20:11

I have PCOS and Endometriosis, and during ovulation I experience pain on one side, bladder weakness, bloating, and I also feel flu-like.
I also often feel flu-like when my period starts.

Pickypolly · 28/11/2020 20:22

Pain on one side, dragging painful sensation in my pelvis and whole undercarriage.
Bloating.
Clumsy, drop stuff, can’t grip things properly.
Very very irritable, aggressive, intolerant of noise.

All pain sorted by paracetamol.
Lasts about 24 hours.

Got much worse as I’ve got older.

I assumed that knowing these symptoms would make me spot on to conceive. It took me up to 18 months to conceive. I was wrong.

It’s shit being female.

ScarlettDarling · 28/11/2020 20:26

I'm a bit worried that my symptoms are lasting so much longer than other posters. Can't remember how long they lasted last month but this is the third day so far this month 😢

OP posts:
nomorespaghetti · 28/11/2020 20:27

For me it lasts usually 1-5 days. It’s very variable.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 28/11/2020 20:28

Ovulation for me means stomach pains, lots of discharge, and sometimes javelin arse!

Picktionary · 28/11/2020 20:29

I dont get anything but low mood on period. Copper coil.

ScarlettDarling · 28/11/2020 20:35

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide glad to hear you get javelin arse 😂 I don't get a javelin feeling there but if I sit down heavily it's definitely uncomfortable!

@nomorespaghetti reassured to hear your symptoms can last as long as 5 days.

OP posts:
nomorespaghetti · 28/11/2020 20:39

To be honest @ScarlettDarling I’m really glad you started this thread, as I have occasionally wondered whether this is normal! It’s reassuring to know others go through it too!

carly2803 · 28/11/2020 20:47

Pickypolly · 28/11/2020 21:09

Och javelin arse, forgot about that! Yep, I get that too.

crazycatbaby · 28/11/2020 21:25

Not on any contraception here (waiting for my husband to get the snipGrin), I can always tell when I'm ovulating, discharge obvs, and javelin arse Sadnotice it much more now after two kids and two section, not sure if that's linked or not x

BookParsley · 28/11/2020 21:44

I only know I'm ovulating due to EWM and feeling horny.
