I had my tonsils removed when i was about 3. I've only just got over flu and had been better for no more then 3 days. When my joints started aching all over, I've been running a temperature and my glands feel so badly swollen that I can hardly move my neck without it causing me pain. This is worse in the right side and is also causing pain in my right ear.
Afer a very bad night (I hardly slept)I booked myself in at the docs.

I did question her diagnosis, knowing full well that I have no tonsils. To which she replied that there is still a small piece of tonsil left on the right side and that there is lots of puss surrounding it.

I am wandering why this is tonsillitis now, when I haven't suffered from anymore bouts from the time my tonsils were removed to now.

Has anyone ever come across this before?
thanx

Hi Pinkdolly,
Some years ago my sister in law who had had her tonsils removed as a child was told by her doctor that they had regrown! She used to suffer numerous bouts of tonsillitis and has had a few more since she discovered the 'new ones' but not many. Hopefully yours will just be a one off.

I had my tonsills out when I was 25 and ever since when I have a throat infection it is likce tonsillitis without the tonsils!.
I had it again a couple of weeks ago and the nurse said it was due to a small part beingleft behind, just like you. You're lucky I seem to get it every time I get a bad cold. I've had three bad bouts this year!
Hope you feel better soon.

ok, so it can happen. Had never heard of this before. Thanx for your replies, am feeling a bit guilty at not believing my doc now.
