Hello, sorry if I haven’t put this in the correct place. I am just after some advice, guidance....

For 5 days I have had a sore burning tongue. It lasts for most of the day. In the past day the burning is now also at times in the top of my mouth (think it is called the Palette?). Feels like it does when you burn it on a slice of pizza but I haven’t and the pain is continuous. I also get it on my lips and they are so dry and sore too. My throat is also sore and also has a burning sensation too.

I have spoken to the GP who advised oral thrush (this is without seeing me as due to situation at moment it was a telephone appointment.). I have got some drops that I have taken for two days but no change. I do not have any physical symptoms of thrush (white stuff etc).

I am very concerned that I have something called Burning Mouth Syndrome. When it started I looked on google and this came up first and now I cannot get it out of my mind. Has anyone had this and got better? I did mention it to the GP and she said she has never heard of it and that they treat what is most likely first.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be going on? I will of course call the GP back next week too.

Thank you for any help that u guys give x

My mum has it she has had for years. I know zinc supplements helped her. She said it became more bearable in time

How old are you out of interest ? My dm blames menopause for her BMS

Thank you @lilfoxfur for your reply. Yes I have read it tended to be something more common during the menopause. Thank you for the zinc advice.

I am only 37 and don’t have any menopause symptoms. It seems to just have appeared out of nowhere.

It does sound like BMS - I had a very mild form of it last year, no pain as such but a weird on and off tingling palette that radiated to the back of my throat. It felt like I had popping candy in my mouth. It really worried me as I had no idea what it was! Eventually it just disappeared of its own accord. I'm peri-menopausal so I put it down to that! Might be worth mentioning to your dentist and maybe asking for a blood test from your GP as you might have a vitamin deficiency. Hope it improves soon Smile
