Hand hold needed-worrying it’s ovarian cancer

After a few months of niggly on off symptoms 4 weeks ago I stopped my period but the period pain didn’t stop. About 8 days later I was really bloated, like painfully so and I booked phone appointment with doctor as didn’t feel right. Since then I have been googling and OC came up when I typed in pelvic pain and bloating. I have since realised that lots of other symptoms I have put down to age and peri menopause ( ovulation pain, bloating, heartburn and needed a wee in night) are actually OC symptoms. Finally when I went to see GP she booked me for bloods and included a CA125 test. I am absolutely freaking and scared to sleep as I think when I wake up my tummy will be severely bloated and I will know for sure. I have mentally decided I have OCand am so frightened. I can’t see how it can be anything else. I still have 10 days till blood tests and scan referral could be months. Have contacted a private women’s health centre as I am so scared and need to know now.

It’s more likely to be an ovarian cyst Flowers but this must be a really frightening time for you. Best of luck x

I can totally understand why you're freaking out and it really is way easier said than done to tell you not to worry until you know exactly what you're dealing with because I'm a huge worrier.
I have my fingers crossed that everything gets sorted out soon 🤞🏻💐

I have since realised that lots of other symptoms I have put down to age and peri menopause ( ovulation pain, bloating, heartburn and needed a wee in night) are actually OC symptoms.

These are all classic signs of peri menopause too though.

Please try to calm down. You have ONE sign of OC - bloating. The rest are not signs of OC.

Ovarian cancer is rare and very rare in women under 50.

The signs you are talking about can be caused by so many other things, including IBS and peri meno.

The C125 test is not accurate anyway- GPs feel obliged to do it- but it's no good at showing up cancer even even in women with advanced OC, a lot of the time.

OC is also known as 'the silent killer' as many women do not realise anything is wrong till it's advanced. It is highly unlikely you have it and the only way to be sure is for a dr to feel your tummy for a tumour and send you for a scan to look at your ovaries. A blood test is not accurate.

It’s so easy to convince yourself something is seriously wrong but try not to let your mind run away. OC bloating is quite specific in that it doesn’t go down, it’s constant. OC is rare in premenopausal women so it’s unlikely to be that but it’s good that your Dr has ordered the Ca125, it’s also a good idea to push for an ultrasound too, although if your Ca125 level comes back elevated they should order a scan for you anyway. Waiting for test results is by far the hardest bit. xx

Also, I had ovarian cancer and it was cleared by surgery so it’s not always the worst case that you find on Dr google

Millie2013 · 22/11/2020 15:36

Hugs, OP. I was where you are, back in the summer. I sobbed down the phone to the GP. I decided it couldn’t be anything except OC, my brain wouldn’t entertain anything else.
It wasn’t OC, we never found out exactly what it was, but symptoms have now subsided. Always good to get checked out, but GP was very reassuring about cancerous ovarian tumours being rare pre-menopause Flowers

Ballsto2020 and Millie2013 than you so much. You are right that Dr Google is absolutely not my friend. Have decorated tree today and gone for a walk to take my mind off it. Am also very fortunate that GP has ordered ultrasounds already. Hoping that’s a precaution rather than because she found something she didn’t tell me

I thought the bloating was constant in OC, if it comes and goes it is unlikely. But good you are being tested, hoping it will put your mind at rest

Iamsodonewith2020 · 24/11/2020 19:56

Really struggling today. Pain is horrible and I feel really tingly/cold all over. Still 5 days till bloods do wondering if I should callback GP. I can’t keep taking co codamol

If your GP suspected OC, surely they would have put you on the 2 week referral pathway? Sounds like you might have an infection though.
Easy to say, but try not to worry x

sadie9 · 24/11/2020 20:26

If you are shivery take your temperature.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 24/11/2020 21:33

No temperature. I have been sent for bloods for OC based on symptoms. Depending on blood results I maybe put on 2 week pathway for my scan she has now said
