SAD lamps and coldsores

happytodayhappytomorrow · 18/11/2020 10:30

I've been using a Lumie lamp for about 10 days now and yesterday, I woke up to the beginnings of not one but three cold sores on my lip!!

Could it be a coincidence or has anyone else discovered a link?

Quick google suggests daylight can trigger them.

Posted too soon!

Does that include light like your lamp? I only had a quick read. platinumtherapylights.com/blogs/news/cold-sore-light-therapy

Duh same link. Ignore that.

DM had horrendous coldsores as I was growing up, she is a sun worshipper, sunlight always triggered her cold sores

Not likely to be linked. Cold sores are the herpes virus, you either have the virus or you don't.

Infrared light is supposed to help treat them, but not sure SAD lamps have that wavelength particularly?

Thanks GreyishDays. I've actually done today what I'm sometimes critical of other people doing.

oh I know I have the virus! I've been getting cold sores on and off since I was about 4. I'm just wondering if the lamp has triggered this outbreak.

Thanks for the info about infrared - I'll look in the booklet with the lamp and see if that is used.

Lumie have replied.

"We are aware that sunlight because of the UV content can impact on cold sores but our SAD lights do not emit UV and we are not aware of this problem being reported before."

They've suggested that I stop using the lamp until the cold sores heal then start using it again and if I get more cold sores, send the lamp back for a refund.

I've got another one already so that's 4 on one lip Sad
