Lower back pain: kidneys or muscular?

Hi, I'm really struggling at the moment. I've had a bad back for a month now. Painful and restricted movements. Can't really straighten up, painful moving position etc.

I developed abdominal pain, saw a GP who diagnosed a kidney infection. Im now day 4 of strong antibiotics and lots of pain has gone.

However today my back was really bad again, really stiff. I sit all day at work.

Tonight I can't sleep for lower back pain that's going into my buttocks at the top. Is this likely to be muscular pain or from the kidney infection and a sign that the antibiotics aren't working?

Re abdo pain I've had bloods and am waiting on a scan.

Google seems to say muscular.

My kidney pains tend to be around the bottom of my ribcage to upper buttocks so yeah, kidneys. The pain can definitely come and go through a course of antibiotics. Whatever you do, don't stop taking them 'because they're not working', that's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Can you move around more on Wednesday's workday, to eliminate that possibility? Set yourself an alarm for every half hour and get up and take a few steps at least. Good practice anyway, humans do really badly sitting down too long at a time and the motion will likely help even if it (probably) is bad kidneys still.

Get some paracetamol down you, but don't take ibuprofen or other NSAIDs as they can aggravate kidney damage. Drink a lot of fluids. Get well soon!
