What was this - sudden surge of blood (probably TMI)

I've been using a coil for quite a long time and had no periods since about 2011 so whatever this was I don't think it was a period!!

yesterday I felt unusually tired and a bit shivery then .
last night I went to the toilet and when I went to wipe my hand got covered in bright red blood - it was dripping down my wrist and the water in the toilet bowl was pinky / red.

I cleaned up in the shower and there were a couple of small clots and quite a bit more blood. I kept bleeding for a few minutes then nothing.. nothing at all except light cramps. Nothing over night.

Still got crampy feelings and feeling a bit shivery.

I don't get it what on earth causes a sudden big surge of heavy bleeding and then nothing at all?

I am trying to decide whether to try to get a GP appointment but since it appears to have stopped it barely seems worth taking up their time.

Is your coil still there? I spontaneously expelled mine a few years ago amid a LOT of blood and crampy pain, and it hooked itself into my cervix, so I wasn't aware what had happened until I had a poke around. DH was so worried he decided to have a vasectomy! Grin

Unexplained bleeding should always be checked out.

Oohyoudevil you I wondered that so I had a poke about and as far as I can tell the threads are in the right place. Still quite crampy though and lost a small amount of blood about an hour ago though nothing like last nights explosion.

I think I'll call the GPs tomorrow morning (easier said than done as their phone queueing system does not work properly and often cuts you off are 20-30 minutes on hold) I had a smear test about a month ago and it was clear so hopefully its nothing too sinister.

I would get it checked OP, just to be sure.
