My poor little ds (4) is in great distress after he's been for a pooh, and wiped. (Sorry if TMI) He says his bum is really sore.It looks a bit red. This has happened for the last few days.

Its NOT worms, we've had those before and this is happening after he's poohed, no matter what time of day.

His pooh is quite loose. He is crying his eyes out! I've tried wet loo wipes, and nappy cream.. Any one else think what it might be?

Could he have piles? Does he normally strain or has he been constipated?

I couldn't see anything resembling a pile (?) He is clenching like you wouldn't believe! He doesn't strain, in fact if anything the we have the opposite, its too runny (Yuck, sorry)

You can get sharp bits in poo (sorry!) which can scratch...or if you go too much it can get sore...perhaps something he's eaten....see if its still sore in the morning and GP check if it is...poor thing

Sounds like might be an anal fissure? Even small (therefore not easy to see) ones can be very very sore, after a poo. My nephew has been struggling with one (he's nearly 4) recently, and sounds very similar...apparently, they are more common in boys, no idea why.

Poor love, not sure what might help - dn saw GP who gave him a couple of creams to try. Meantime, I'd try something like Anusol if you have it - might ease the inflammation and shouldn't sting?

Oh, also, could possibly (less likely) be thrush...if he got a bit sore there from zealous wiping, or poo leakage (might be possible if he's having loose ones). You could try a bit of Canesten HC, its ok for bums.

Thankyou for your advice. My dh took two hours getting him to sleep tonight (I as at the gym, oblivious!) Will def. take him to docs.

I usually find that getting creative with some vaseline helps alot. Sometimes, if they are very regular and having to wipe often, it just irritates it a bit.
