Need to see my GP or just lose weight?

Evening,

I'm overweight, dress size 16 so not massive but my BMI is obese.

My question is should I see my GP as when laying on my back I find it harder to breathe and it feels like somethings stuck in my throat.

I have an under active thyroid but take medication.

I don't want to waste my GPs time if I should just eat less cake but do I have a valid reason to call?

If you find it hard to breathe when lying down, it could be a caused by weight. It doesn't sound like this but it's worth talking to your GP. www.nhs.uk/conditions/sleep-apnoea/ and sleep apnoea happens mostly in overweight people.

Do both.
We have a rough winter coming up and it is best not to start with untreated breathing difficulties.

Agreed phone your gp and they will triage your concerns and decide what is best but yes you need to lose weight. I also have a high BMI and I'm finding it a good time to lose weight and make me get outside to walk.

Both. You need to know your thyroid is under control or you will struggle to lose weight.
