My best friend's husband had gall stones. He was in so much pain waiting for the op that he couldn't eat and lost 2.5 stone in 2 months! So NO - I reckon gall stones don't stop you losing weight

lol doesnt sound like it then but if he wasnt eating at all then hes going to lose weight even if they do. Someone told me they can as they store extra fat as they block it from going through as bile. I guess i'll find out once ive had gallbladder out on 5th Nov (hope they do coz this 1lb a weeks taking ages lol, saying that I want to lose 3 stone by end of next July/start of Aug and 1lb a week will do that )

Good luck - but 20 little gall stones can't be storing 3 stone, surely?

Losing weight is a bugger, isn't it? I've been pretty good and lost 2 stone and about 4lb, but I could do with shifting another stone.

1lb a week might not seem like much, but it is. There are 3800 calories in a pound of fat - you probably use about 2000 a day, so you need to consume 200 calories a day less than you actually need.

What I have tried to do is change my eating habits instead of diet. I'm also taking more exercise. The weight has crept off at the rate of 1 or 2lb a month, but sad to say I haven't lost anything since about June.

I just think that losing weight is so much harder as you get older, so I wanted to shift it before it got stuck on the hips forever!

You'll be off to a good start when you have your op as you probably won't eat much for at least a few days, will you?

ps My friend's dh is fatter than ever now!

Oh no I dont think the gallstones are the 3 stone I need to lose lol but was told that they could be why im only losing 1lb a week as last time I was on a diet doing exactly as I am now it was more like 3lbs a week and the gallstones are all thats changed.

...apart from the fact that you now weigh less so you need fewer calories! That's why it's so much easier to lose weight when you first start dieting. When I think that it makes me so cross I feel like going off for the chocolate!

lol I know what you mean you get a's*d it' feeling. I have only been on a diet for 7 weeks and have lost 7lbs, I was 11stone 11lbs and im not 11stone 4lbs (the gallstones are a mix of being overweight & having my daugher, shes now 18 months)
