Got a belly button hernia that was diagnosed after ds2 was born in July. Going in November to have an op to have it removed under general ( YUK). Anyone had this done ? What is recovery time. Got 2 babes under 2 so cant be immobile for long !

I had an inguenal hernia op earlier this year, but it's quite different.... for what its worth, they said i'd be fine, would only need paracetamol, and THEY WERE WRONG! I felt like serious crap for about a week, and had to take the rest of my post childbirth pills (ds was about 10 weeks when I had the op), so take everything they say with a large pinch of salt.

sorry mousemole, away from internet for a few days. inguenal hernia in groin, have 4inch long scar below appendix scar area (if that makes any sense to you?!), within area covered by bikini bottom. Was told mine could be done under local, but had mine done under general (and v glad I did too, judging by the size of the scar I was left with). Was also told I couldn't life dd (a smallish 2 year old) for 6 weeks, but I obviously had no choice with ds who was only 10 weeks. Definitely get in some help if you can, I found it really difficult walking and carrying ds for about a week afterwards, and definitely needed to take regular rests. This is all about an inguenal hernia though, not an umbilical one, but maybe this will bump the thread so that someone can come along with more relevant experienced!
