to try microdosing?

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 15:09

I have been dealing with constant migraines for 20 + years now. I have tried so many preventatives over the decades and none work well or for long. I've done various clinical trials and non licensed medications / treatments and I still spend 20 or more days a month dealing with migraines. I do get some relief with pain killers, naproxen and co-codamol and i use sumatriptan but these drugs can't be used all the time so the majority of the time I just have to suffer them.

I am done with it, I haven't had a life due to migraine, I have no job, no children, very few friends, I've hardly travelled and I'm too ill most of the time for a rewarding hobby. If i do get a day where I am not in pain all I can do is try to catch up on all the things that must be done before I'm taken out by another migraine.

I have heard a lot of good things about microdosing for migraine and I want to try it. I have no idea how and i know its not legal but I don't care. I should be able to try if it might help me live with less pain and have a more normal life. I would go as far to say that I don't believe any judge or jury would convict me for doing it.

I have no interest in being high or tripping, I just want a normal life!

I am sorry I am no help, this is the first time I have heard of this but may I ask what you would be microdosing with please?

IsAnyoneInAbuDhabi · 27/10/2020 15:21

Also I am so sorry you are suffering so badly Thanks

What drug are you trying to microdose with and I really think you need to do some research on this. Have you tried Daith piercing?

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 15:44

@Leaannb I have a Daith pericing on both ears I do not like the way it looks and it did nothing sadly. I personally think its a placebo.

I'm probably try and use psilocybin as it seems easier to get a hold of. I don't know any people who know about this stuff but will just have to try and learn myself. I will of course do a lot of research, I already have.

I don't even drink alcohol so this isn't about getting a cheap thrill or anything. I just want to get rid of the constant pain and have some sort of life!

I don't see much point asking on Mumsnet, how many people here will even have heard of it?

The microdosing subreddit might be a better bet. Don't just wade in and ask "tell me everything", spend some time going through introductory posts that should answer most of your beginner questions.

Don't waste your time with mushrooms. Extremely dangerous and can easily destroy your life. What helps me tremendously is botox

GenevaMaybe · 27/10/2020 15:49

As a fellow migraine sufferer, do whatever it takes. Including microdosing if that’s all that is left.
There’s also botox which has been v effective for my friend but not me, acupuncture and cranial osteopathy (helped me a lot) and CBD (haven’t tried it).

abonae · 27/10/2020 15:49

I suffered with recurrent, debilitating, migraines for about 10 years. I had some relief with co-codamol (30mg) and Rizatriptin, but not reliably. By chance I saw a doctor from a UK migraine association (don't remember the name) on TV taking questions. One questioner asked about non-drug solutions. I expected the doctor to be dismissive, but instead she said that many people found magnesium to be helpful.

I tried magnesium myself. Since taking it, I have had one moderate attack and one very mild attack - that was 4 years ago.

Clearly this is hardly a major trial (!) but you might consider using it for a few months. From what I have read, it's pretty safe. I take 250mg daily.

stairgates · 27/10/2020 15:50

Would cbd oil help, that seems to be helping with alot of ailments or could be another gimmick, anyone with any experience?

flaviaritt · 27/10/2020 15:51

Is this just a new way to say drugs?

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 15:53

Try zamnesia.com . I have a friend who orders grow kits from there and grows the mushrooms himself. It helps with a multitude of health issues he has. He puts the tiniest amount into capsules. It does not make you feel high or anything of the sort, hence why its called microdosing

BlueJava · 27/10/2020 16:00

OP, because you try this can I recommend Cefaly II (not an agent, don't worry). Migraines were ruining my life - nearly lost my job as I was having 2-3 per week and they'd last 1-3 days each. Please have a look at the MigraneTrust It has literally changed my life along with some dietary changes which are comparatively easy to cope with (no alcohol, reduced carbs). I don't have an opinion on microdosing and haven't tried it myself but I know how desperate migraines can make people.

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:09

@BlueJava I've tried the cefaly, and it did not work for me. I currently use a VNS device I have through the NHS which is ok. I have tried so many diet variations and cutting out different things and I don't think it makes much if any difference for me. I have never really drank alcohol as teenage attempts to drink all ended in severe migraines.

@Mytimetokillandmaim CBD I'm not sure about I've tried it but it is so hard to find a reliable, affordable supply so much of what is available has hardly any cbd at all. It should be available to those who need it but then children with intractable epilepsy can't even reliabliy get what they need so I don't see it happening for a long time.

@Mytimetokillandmaim I will look at the shop you mention, thank you for that info!

@abonae I do take magnesium, have multiple baths in magnesium salts, I take B vit complex, hemp oil, DHA Oil, high strength CoQ10, extra B2, Vitamin C, you name it I have tried it!

OP posts:
librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:19

@flaviaritt it is drugs (psychadelics) but you take such a low dose that you don't have any noticable effect, you don't get high or trip. It seems to help people with certain conditions such as depression and migraine. Its a big area of research at the moment.

OP posts:
librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:21

@GenevaMaybe Thanks, I've had botox and it didn't help me. Osteopathy did help with my neck pain but not my migraines. Acupuncture did help a bit but only when I was having a lot of treatments and when I couldn't afford it they just came back.

Thanks for understanding, I don't think people who don't get migraines would understand.

OP posts:
librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:23

@Leaannb easy for you to say if botox helps you, what about the people it doesn't help, what are we supposed to do? Microdosing means you just take a tiny amount, much lower than they levels you would experiance a trip on.

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 16:25

I’ve been microdosing psilocybin for a while, every other day then every three days but I’ve had a few weeks off now. Not for migraines but general life.

BertieBotts · 27/10/2020 16:25

Yes look at the reddit sub. Mumsnet is unlikely to be a good source of info!

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 16:27

I take a gram at a time, a recreational dose is around 10-15g, most recently using pajaritos truffles or ??? something something Mexican truffles. I would happily do it all the time but they’re horrible to eat!

librarydiscard · 27/10/2020 16:28

@Ylfa, have you found it helpful or experianced any negative side effects?
