Have you had this year's flu vaccine?

Some years I am more sensitive to side effects / reactions than others.

How are the reported levels of side effects this year?

I had mine Friday and my arm has been a bit sore but not as bad as last year.

This year the pharmacist suggested I put a cold compress on it which I hadn’t heard of doing before. So I had some frozen peas on it for a while when I got home and it looks like it helped.

Last year I couldn’t sleep on my arm for about 3
Nights it was so painful. This time it is sore but I can still sleep on it.

I had mine yesterday and had a sore arm by evening, it actually woke me several times in the night whenever I rolled onto it (I usually sleep on that side).

Ltdannygreen · 18/10/2020 22:51

Me and DP got it done today, I have a bit of a sniffle that came on about an hour ago and he says his arm hurts.....

mumof1879 · 19/10/2020 18:33

I had mine on Saturday. No issues just a slight bruised feeling.

year5teacher · 19/10/2020 21:13

I had mine about a week ago and no side effects other than the usual sore arm for a day or two.

Gurufloof · 19/10/2020 21:18

Had it two weeks ago, the usual swollen around the site but nothing worse. Not so bad , could sleep at least. Several years ago I had a terrible reaction and didnt sleep for a week cos my arm so swollen and sore.

Legoandloldolls · 19/10/2020 23:04

I get called for a shot because I'm a carer. I didnt have it last year because normally they dont chase me and I'm only ever one year out of date, so mostly covered against existing strains. But I have been called in this year.

Normally the worst side effect is a pain in the arm that sets in day two. I have only had the sniffles once so i think that might have been a random mild cold at a coincidence timing.

Hopefully it will be just a painful arm.again. I seems to hurt more than any other injection the next day. Good job that passes after a day or two.

No flu symptoms but I’ve got a swollen upper arm that hurts.

If it doesn’t calm down over the next few days I’ll be going back to Tesco with my left arm in a bag and asking them what to do....

I’m thinking perhaps a long slow roast?

housemdwaswrong · 21/10/2020 00:52

Had this and pneumonia jab about 3 weeks ago. No reaction to either, happily.

Auldspinster · 21/10/2020 01:01

Earlier today, mild fever and shivery soon after but much better now.

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2020 12:21

Had mine 2 weeks ago. No after effects and have had no after effects for the last 15 or so years.
It's not a live vaccine - 3 separate healthcare professionals have told me that that means it's not possible to have symptoms of flu because of it and that if people do, it's complete coincidence and they would have felt like that on that day anyway. I also think that anticipating/expecting symptoms has a lot to do with it....

FuzzyPuffling · 22/10/2020 13:40

I had mine a couple of weeks ago. I had a sore arm starting about half an hour after the jab, and 12 hours later felt rather unwell, sufficient to send me to bed. Completely fine the next day.

I have an autoimmune disease and tend to be very reactive to anything, be it vaccines, prescription drugs etc. I look at it as my immune system recognising something needs dealing with, which is a good thing!

Torvean32 · 22/10/2020 15:51

Are any of you finding pharmacies that stock it?

Bluesheep8 · 22/10/2020 15:57

I have to have it at the GPs due to a medical condition so I don't know about pharmacies

It's quite alarming that you have come across 3 HCPs all of whom have ignored the published information on side effects, which is included in the pack information leaflet that comes with each shot (and which you can take away with you)

You don't get flu, as it's a killed vaccine, and the strain cannot replicate in the body. But you can get side effects and yes they are both common and flu like.

eurochick · 23/10/2020 07:14

I woke up with a banging headache the day after mine but otherwise ok.

Always get a flu vaccination and a tender uncomfortable upper arm for a few days after. Weirdly didn't get that this year. Hope it still works!

doireallyneedaname · 23/10/2020 08:09

I had it last November for the first time because I was pregnant. I felt fine in myself but had quite a strong local reaction, a good 3 inch raised red area and an extremely painful arm.

I had this years two days ago and although my my arm was a bit sore for a day, there is no redness at all!
