I know this is a very emotive topic PLEASE dont flame me

I had an abortion 10 days ago. I do not want a debate on abortion and dont want to have to give my reasons for abortion

Basically I just wondered if anyone had any idea if this was normal.

bleeding had just about cleared up and turned to more of a bloody discharge then i had a pain in lower back around kidney area and today bleeding started very heavily and soaked normal pad in about an hour and passed 3 -4 large clots today. blood is now back to bright red and im experiencing some discomfort

Hi there, i have had a termination and although my bleeding lasted a while it was never very heavy or with clots.

I think a trip to the doc would be best tbh. Don't you have a follow up appointment anyway ??

i had an abortion about 2 months agos and i had quite heavy bleading and passed some quite big clots i rang up nhs direct first they will tell u what to do for the best xxxxxxxxxxxxxx take care

Jimjams · 19/10/2004 21:35

I think you need to see someone to check you haven't got an infection. I have no experience of termination, but assuming it was early performed by a d and c my understanding is that the bleeding shouldn't last very long at all. I would go and see someone first thing tomorrow- or ring NHS direct or your emergency doctor service tonight.

nutcracker · 19/10/2004 21:35

Oh yes forgot about them Nik, good idea

lalaa · 19/10/2004 21:35

no idea if this is normal after an abortion, but post birth, I had extended bleeding, followed by passing a large clot and membrane (sorry about the detail) after about 14 days. Showed it to the midwife and she said it was fine, looked complete but that if it happened again to let her know immediately.
So, to answer your question, I don't think it is normal necessarily, and would contact the hospital straight away in your situation.

I had an abortion quite a few years ago and suffered similar. Was ok for a few days then started really heavy bleeding, lots of pain and huge big clots. Turn's out my uterus tilts forward and I should have laid on my tummy after the op as the blood doesn't clear out properly. Suggested you phone the clinic a.s.a.p and get advise. Don't leave it any longer and try not to worry.
big hugs ((((()))))

No advice other than what has been said, hope you are ok. Just wanted to assure you that I can't imagine anyone critiscing your decision here. Emotive topic maybe but I would like to hope that people respect everyones right to make their own decisions. Hope you are ok and things have settled. Thinking of you.

spacemonkey · 20/10/2004 00:00

Just want to add my best wishes for you needadvice. I would go to the GP if you are worried, or ring the hospital/clinic where you had the procedure done to ask them about your symptoms. Hope you feel better soon XXX

I agree to call for an appointment. I had a similar experience. Some tissue had been left and they had to do the procedure again. Everything was fine after that.

Arabica · 20/10/2004 14:23

Yes, same thing happened to me, so please please call your clinic/NHS direct straightaway, especially if you have a temperature. Good luck and take some arnica (homeopathic remedy avauilable in chemists/health food shops) as it'll help you heal up quicker.

WideWebWitch · 20/10/2004 19:00

No advice but hope you're ok.

Go get yourself seen asap - like tonight or tomorrow morning - you could have a blood clot and are at risk of infection. Hope you are ok. Big hugs.

Arabica · 21/10/2004 10:20

Are you OK needadvice? Thinking of you.

needadvicenotargumen · 21/10/2004 20:00

Thankyou everyone for your advice - I really appreciate you sharing your experiences on this subject - thank you also for not being hard on me - I was expecting some harsh words.

Things are improving, havent had any more very heavy bleeding or clots since I posted althought do have some discomfort in my back still.
