Reflux in Toddlers

Tinytears34 · 11/10/2007 19:42

Does anyone have a toddler with reflux. If so can you please tell me all the signs. My DD had reflux and a baby and I thought she grew out of it at about 8months. Then about 6 months ago she started to get tummy bugs at least once a month. She would vomit for days. The last episode was at the weekend when she was admitted to hospital when she vomited coffeground blood and was put on a drip for dehydration. The doctor put her back on Gavison again while waiting for an appt with a specialist. In the mean time I would like to know what foods are good or any tips anyone might have. She is still very poorly. Thanks

No experience with toddler but I copied this on a very well done reflux web site:
?Food and reflux pain

The foods that can make reflux pain worse for a baby/child are:
? Fruit and fruit juice, especially oranges, apples and bananas. Pears are the least acidic and an ideal first fruit for reflux babies.
? Tomatoes and tomato sauce
? Chocolate
? Tea and coffee
? Spicy Foods
? Fizzy drinks (especially COKE)
? Fatty foods (i.e. fish and chips!!)
It is important to note however, that these foods will not worsen vomiting, and so it is not necessary to avoid them in a 'happy chucker'.

Thank you lory. I just had a look and it is a brilliant site. she has all the symptoms. It helps to get a better understanding while waiting for the specialist. I might get some sleep tonight. I would never have believed about banannas.
I will just have to eat the chocolate for her(shame)..
Thanks again
