HELP - dd's temperature not going down

At 4pm it was 39.6 so I gave her 7.5 ml of Nurofen. At 5.30 it was 39.2.

She says she feels cold, her eyes are watery and her head feels 'dizzy' and she can barely move off the sofa.

Apart from spongeing her with cool water is there anything else I can or should do?

Yes, 2 hours is recommended.

Although you can give them together.

You generally look to dose in the middle of the other one - 2 hours would be fine I think. You just want to avoid the 'end of dose' time when the temp goes back up again but you can;t give them more of the same. Just remember that neurofen lasts 8 hours though and not 4. If the temp still doesn;t go down I would ring the gp for advice - it could show an underlying infection such as ear etc.

make sure the sponging gets the hair damp as you lose a lot of heat through your head that way. Ice cube or ice lolly to suck. Strip down to pants only and let them snuggle just under a sheet.

As soon as possible see if they can sleep it off but keep wandering in and checking.

TV if they can't.

Just noticed your post Mercy. Just had DD (16 months)at the docs with a temp of 39.5. She's been really lethargic and just generally off. She's been sat on my knee all day which is highly unusual. Anyway the doc told me to give her some calpol then 3 hours later give her ibuprofen, then 3 hours later give her calpol and so on. He recommended to alternate every 3 hours. Hopefully this will get her on the mend.

I think it is recommended to seak medical advice with a temp over 39.4 - but TBH I have got sick of going to be told how to ease temp (paracetamol/ibuprofen/strip down...) and there was nothing else wrong - so I personally don't bother now - although I would if temp wasn't coming down.

If it helps DTD1s temp was 39.7 @ 5pm today. 7.5ml ibuprofen and at 6pm she was 38.6 and by 6:30 she was 37.something - so I would be concerned it is not coming down TBH

What I mean is DTDs temp has come down rapidly with ibuprofen alone - and although they are all different I would be concerned your DDs is not responding IYSWIM

dd's temperature has gone down after the Calpol and a wipe down with a cold flannel.(I did her hair too!) She fell asleep again on the sofa but is now in bed. She is 6.5 so can tell me how she is feeling.

ds fell asleep on the floor, woke up and vomited copiously over himself, the carpet and in a bowl, and is also now in bed.

This is the one aspect of being a parent that I really don't like

Sponging down should be done with tepid water, not cold.

Glad your DDs temp is dropping, hope your DS recovers though! I hate that bit of parenting too.
