If Buscopan works then does it mean I have IBS?

GP has ordered a battery of tests as I have lower abdominal pains but suggested trying Buscopan in meantime. It really has made the pain about 80% less and much more manageable. Does this mean the pain is likely to be IBS?

Not really. Buscopan relaxes the muscles. It's used during some scans so they can get clearer images.

If you had an obstruction causing pain then reducing the frequency at which your bowel contracted against it might reduce the pain. If you had Crohn's and the bowel was in overdrive then relaxing it also might reduce the pain. It could also be a placebo effect. I am sure there are other reasons it could help at a superficial level.

Unless you've had a camera test nobody can say you do or don't have IBS. Has your GP requested one yet?

IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion.

No they have ordered bloods, urine, stool and ultrasound

Not necessarily - my GP suggested it as a way of managing period pain.

Not really, it helps my crohn's also. Hope you get your tests quickly and get some answers.

Buscopan helps for gallstones so not necessarily ibs.

It’s also used in childbirth.
